Turning the Tide
The optimism around the 2017-2018 Cowboy Basketball team – from the inside – was incredibly impressive. Mike Boynton gave the credit to his squad.
“This program’s OK,” Boynton said. “This program’s in good shape. Not like we’re going to start setting the NIT quarterfinal as the bar, but what we thought maybe 362 days ago, versus what you saw tonight, I think is a stark difference. There’s an extreme amount of optimism for what’s going on here and it’s because of those kids in that locker room.” [TulsaWorld]
It would have been so easy to point to Jawun’s (and Underwood’s) early exit and the strength of the league and let things unravel from there. But a culture of optimism and belief translated to impressive wins – mad props to Boynton and the vets on the team for a surprisingly entertaining and fun ride.
? School-record 4 top-10 wins
? 36th 20-win season in OSU history
? Tied the school record with 15 wins in GIAThis season might not have ended like we wanted but there was plenty to celebrate in 2017-18. Thank you for joining us on this journey. #letswork #okstate pic.twitter.com/CQCtX1YVKQ

Now What?
Now, you pay the man. Jenni Carlson gives a compelling argument as to why.
Bumping him to $1.25 million would be a minimum raise.
Going to $1.5 million would be more fitting.
Holder, of course, must be mindful of past mistakes made in contracts with men’s basketball coaches. Too little money for Brad Underwood hastened his departure. Too many years for Travis Ford locked him in longer than many folks wanted. But a balance can be struck with Boynton — and he’s worth figuring it out.
His vision for basketball suits the Cowboy faithful. Playing hard. Being defensive minded. Getting physical. [NewsOK]
There’s lots of goodwill from the OSU administration towards Boynton – don’t cash that in too early. Voluntarily raising the salary is a business decision, a reasonable one in a revenue-producing sport for a coach capable of producing.

Hate to be on the committee picking these teams.
Totally agree that #OKState simply beat too many really quality opponents to be left out.
That said, W. Kentucky sure looked superior and beat Purdue in only chance at a comparable win.
Conclusion: there is no good way to do this and I'm glad I don't have to. https://t.co/msNIhjp6Ie— Cayden McFarland (@caydenmc) March 23, 2018
Another reason why an upset-oriented Cowboy team would have fit like a glove.
This tournament is amazing and totally fitting for this college basketball season. Let’s go for, like, Loyola-Texas Tech in the national title game
