Fashionably Late
When considering why the Pokes waited to start spring practice until the very last days possible, there was intentionality for the change in practice.
Considering that only one coach was let go — former defensive coordinator Glenn Spencer — the number of new faces added to the football staff is significant.
New defensive coordinator Jim Knowles and defensive line assistant Greg Richmond headline a group that includes two offensive analysts, a defensive analyst, a special teams analyst, plus quality control coaches, graduate assistants and the previously mentioned members of the recruiting staff.
While the recruiting aspect of a late-April spring game is the biggest reason for the change, the new staff members are getting some of the benefit. [NewsOK]
For one of the longest-tenured coaches in college football, the lower rungs (as well as the defensive coordinator) of the program being dramatically reshaped is enough cause to push back the critical evaluation period that is spring ball.
…and Justice For All
The 2018 football team will accentuate a part of the 2017 roster that wasn’t quite shown as brightly because of the context.
It’s not often that Big 12 running backs get recognition nationally, but Justice Hill deserves more national publicity. Justice rushed for 1,467 yards last season and rushed for over 1,100 yards in his freshman season back in 2016. He led the Big 12 in rushing yards, rushing attempts and rushing touchdowns last season as well. To sum it all up, the guy can flat out play football. The speed, quickness and vision separate Justice from most backs and he is by no means afraid to run it in between the tackles.
The two-time all-Big 12 running back looks to terrorize defenses once again in 2018 but this time, there is no Mason Rudolph or James Washington to steal the show. [Heartland College Sports]
So much of the 2017 football team was about Rudolph-> Washington, Rudolph to Ateman, McCleskey, Stoner and Tyron Johnson. This fall it could be Justice left and right so much that Nathan Simmons thinks it’d be reasonable to pass more.

Another reason why Rickie is one of the humans that happens to be great at golf.
Enjoyed helping @WeAreFarmers and @SBPUSA rebuild the Gilbert family's home, which was damaged during Hurricane Harvey. Great to be part of the rebuilding efforts and even had a chance to mix in some practice with my new buddy Justin. pic.twitter.com/6Ynni7Jitn
