Defensive Adjustments
Plenty of chatter going around about the… decrease in defensive effectiveness down the stretch in 2017 and what to do about it.
So what’s the fix? The defense has ended this season in a similar way to its finish in 2015. That year, Oklahoma State was admittedly beat up and worn out.
Perhaps its the recruitment of more depth — with the dismissal of Madre Harper and departure of Adrian Baker, A.J. Green and Rodarius Williams have defended nearly every snap over the past few weeks. Though OSU has a solid rotation on its defensive line, its back end could use reinforcements.
Maybe it’s an examination of schemes, though that’s something that won’t happen until the offseason.
Whatever the solution is, Gundy knows there’s pressure to find it. [TulsaWorld]
With the defense getting more scholarships than the offense, it’s hard to pin it to depth.
My two cents: I’m more of the persuasion of holding position coaches responsible. I do love Carson’s idea espoused in the post-game though. Find me a defensive Dana!
Travel Update
A solid update on your holiday travel plans if you want to see the Mason Rudolph farewell game.
For now, it would appear the Cowboys are charted on a course for the Camping World Bowl in Orlando, Florida. The middle tier of the three Orlando bowl games, the Camping World Bowl gets the best available ACC team after the Orange Bowl selection is made.
A couple of online bowl projections have teams such as Virginia Tech or North Carolina State lined up for a trip to the Camping World Bowl.
Some projections still suggest OSU could land back at the Alamo Bowl, but the Cowboys have some other story lines working against them. TCU might not get into a New Year’s Six bowl. Or the folks in San Antonio might choose to go with the fresh face of this year’s Big 12 darling, Iowa State, which travels well to bowl games after an average season — much less a year like it has had. [NewsOK]
Those Iowa State fans will be hard for the Alamo Bowl to turn down – some may just stay after they realize permafrost isn’t normal everywhere in December. I would love to see an OSU vs. Washington State matchup though.
OSU and NCAA Notes
Baker Mayfield should be suspended for West Virginia game and his actual punishment….Coaching carousel is starting to spin….Should Chip Kelly go east or west?….Is Mike Yurcich in line for a head coaching job?
Can somebody check if Gundy has Arkansas Waterfall trademarked? Could make enough to hire Kingsbury.

Austin Peay is one of CFB’s better stories this year – a massive turnaround. They weren’t selected for the FCS playoffs and this concerned nine-year-old fan adorably set the committee straight.
