Daily Bullets (November 22)
Epicly Average
Diving into the numbers, this historic 2017 offense has an Achilles’ heel that hampered their progress.
Oklahoma State has 21 turnovers in 11 games. Last year, OSU had 14 in 13 games.
It’s no coincidence OSU is 0-3 in games in which it has lost the turnover battle this year. Ten of the 21 giveaways came in those three defeats.
But for an offense considered to be the most explosive — and by some, simply the best — in the country before the season, the carelessness with the football was a stunning impediment to Oklahoma State’s goals.
“I’ve already done the homework on that,” Mike Gundy said Monday. “We should have been sitting at about 15 right now and we’re not.” [TulsaWorld]
While there will be much analysis and lamenting over what could have been, one of the strongest indicators of underperformance has to be tied to the ghastly (in Oklahoma State terms) turnover rate.
(No) Rocky Top
Mike Gundy’s lifetime contract is finally starting to have an effect on the rumor mill.
Don’t count on Mike Gundy, who turned down Tennessee in 2012, as tensions between him and Oklahoma State administration (and T. Boone Pickens) have subsided. Gary Patterson just publicly shamed Tennessee for doubting him in 2009. [The Athletic]
Sometimes “it just means more” to win at your alma mater.
Bigger and Better
Not to keep perpetuate questions of job security that Gundy himself has shot down, but when Berry Tramel was pressed in a recent chat about Glenn Spencer’s security, he had some reasonable thoughts.
I don’t know. I don’t know if OSU can get someone better. That’s a crapshoot. But OSU’s defense is definitely trending in the wrong direction. [NewsOK]
A. Could the Cowboys find someone who wants to coach with that style of play who is objectively better and B. Would be willing to stay and establish continuity if they did a great job. If you can objectively answer yes to both of those, then I’m more than willing to venture down that road but otherwise, I’m Team Glenn.

When there are no tables at Joe’s and you’ve gotta get on the highway to head home. Big 12 reprimanded Baker and the non-hand shaking KU players for their conduct.
