Hiring Freeze?

Mike Gundy won’t be in too big of a hurry to replace Mike Yurcich if he gets called up to run his own program. You may be surprised to hear why.

Gundy said he hasn’t given much thought to what his plan would be if Yurcich departs.

Though he said he “probably should” be thinking about it, Gundy said the new early signing date (Dec. 20) for the 2018 class will alter the landscape of coaching changes.

Gundy said it takes some pressure off any openings on staff because there’s not an urgency to sign a coach who can help keep a class together in January.

“To me, that’s going to help me,” he said Monday, “because 95 percent of our class is going to be confirmed before the big moves start to happen, other than your major places.” [TulsaWorld]

There you have it – most of their job responsibilities for December and January will be complete. 95 percent of the class though! Will this take all of the fun out of signing day?

Better Days

Proper eulogies will be in line for Rudolph-to-Washington but alluded to the fresh feelings will be more than enough for now after a fitting Senior Day.

The disappointment of missed opportunities this season will fade with time, but the accomplishments of Rudolph and Washington will stand tall in Cowboy history.

A bowl game still remains, but Saturday’s touchdown connection was the perfect way to close the book on what Rudolph and Washington have meant within the walls of Boone Pickens Stadium. [NewsOK]

Whether we’re halfway through the Gundy tenure or not (who knows), quarterbacks like No. 2 only come around once in a blue moon – fun to see he got a proper sendoff.

OSU and NCAA Notes

Chip Kelly to UCLA is fascinating….Every Frog and Bear was penalized Friday….Three College Football Playoff rules that could be broken this year….Top ten candidates to take over at Arkansas….OU survived Baker’s devastating two-play suspension

Bowman’s character and play recognized by the CFL, really impressive stuff.

Get well soon, Ogbah.

Haven’t heard any buzz but love this idea. A former assistant with no history of harming players (allegedly).

What it feels like being an Oklahoma State fan sometimes.

Responsibility for one’s actions is a tough lesson for Sooners, i.e. commemorating a crotch grabber like a fallen comrade.

Beat the Dawgs.
