The Times Are Changing

Here are some numbers that emblemize the recent surge of Cowboy victories in their series against Texas.

Texas, once a source for stocking NFL rosters, has produced just four first-round draft picks since 2008. The past two seasons, only two Longhorns were drafted at all, neither higher than the third round. In 2014, Texas didn’t have a single draft pick.

By contrast, the Cowboys have produced six first-round picks since 2009.

The talent flip has been apparent overall, too, with OSU existing as the better program since 2010, going 46-19 in Big 12 play, with Texas at 31-33. [NewsOK]

There you have it – more NFL-talented rosters (?!) and in the aggregate a better time. I’ll always hold that the Texas-born OSU players seem to want to win at Texas something crazy.

Desert Stars

Oklahoma State is perceived pretty darn favorably by Vegas.

Oklahoma State was favored by only 26.5 over Baylor and won by 43, earning a nice bump in the ratings. Oklahoma State is No. 3 in my average game grade rankings and No. 7 with Westgate, but the Cowboys are back at No. 11 with FPI. [ESPN – In $]

Rated No. 8 ahead of TCU, the Pokes are one of the top dogs to put your money on apparently.

Charlie Brown Kicker

It appears Ammendola may have a shot at being the best kicker on the field today.

(Texas coach Tom) Herman says he hates kicking short field goals, but decisions to go for it on 4th down have been costly in every loss. At some point, he’s going to have to try to take the points. Texas field goal kicker Josh Rowland has struggled when he does get to kick and is just 5 of 10 on attempts with a long of 49 yards. [Associated Press]

While the Aussie punter who struggled against the Pokes in 2015 is having a stellar season, the kicker appears to be a vulnerability.

OSU and NCAA Notes

What to watch this weekend in college football (what to watch in the Big 12)….Bill Haisten on how Mason Rudolph needs to thrive today where he hasn’t ….UCF’s Scott Frost and an early look at college football’s coaching carousel….ICYMI: a must-read on Gundy/OSU football from earlier this week….A UT-perspective on today’s game

Solid play from the California-born freshman.

Must-listen for those into recruiting.

Cowgirl Soccer took out the Wildcats and ascended to the top of the league.

That Louisiana isn’t Cain’s, California isn’t In-N-Out and that Oklahoma isn’t Chick-fil-a has me beside myself.
