Unexplainable

While it all (sort of) makes sense now – ruling on the punt being touched was inconsequential – the fact that redshirt freshman Rodarius Williams dove at the ball was perplexing.

The Cowboys had gotten a stop, forcing a punt. But before the punt, Williams was called for holding. Then after the punt hit the ground and was touched by two TCU players, he inexplicably tried to corral the ball.

Williams didn’t have much of an explanation.

“I just saw the ball and tried to make a play, I don’t know why,” Williams said. “I don’t even know.”

While the muff, recovered by the Frogs, was overruled by the previous touches by TCU, the holding call resulted in a first down. [NewsOK]

Far be it for me to fathom the pressures those guys play through but it was satisfying to understand the logic (or lack thereof). Here’s to hoping the young man doesn’t beat himself up for something that didn’t even affect the outcome of the game or the play for that matter.

Comments from the Peanut Gallery

It’s hard to imagine the general narrative around a team doesn’t affect how they play.

But the Big 12 was served notice on Saturday: Take nothing for granted. The Cowboys were a 13-point favorite heading into this game. Oklahoma was a 28-point favorite at Baylor. In this league, it truly is one game at a time — and nobody feels that cliché more than Patterson.

“People handle failure better than they handle success,” Patterson said on his postgame radio show. “Now, can we handle everybody telling us how great we are?” [Yahoo Sports]

Justifiable – at the time – hype followed the Pokes all the way to the Vegas betting windows. Now those expectations are lessening and the burden is for teams like TCU to bear.

Those dudes in their prime together would dominate in March.

This is still the best.

Barkley is a human cheat code.

Love this idea – maybe a special post-season scrimmage/bowl game.
