Predictions were made in the offseason, but just one data point is enough to make a more educated guess.
Here’s one bold prediction from the night: It would be a surprise if Rudolph doesn’t end up in New York at the Heisman Trophy ceremony as a finalist. He finished the night 20-of-24 in passing for 303 yards and three touchdowns, a maestro performance that portends a high-end season. There’s enough diverse talent around him, in an offense with a strong pedigree of production, that it’s hard to imagine him not putting up comic book numbers. [Yahoo Sports]
That a prolific quarterback with a history of insane efficiency, productivity, and winning surrounded by top shelf talent would be considered a top five college football player isn’t that bold.
Performance Review
Gundy’s boss spoke… glowingly of him.
“It’s remarkable how much he’s grown and matured,” said Oklahoma State athletic director Mike Holder. “I think he’s very comfortable in his position, feels very secure.
“Boone Pickens gave us hope and Mike Gundy gave us leadership. Before that we kind of wallowed in the wilderness for the better part of five decades. The times we did have success, it was followed by probation.” [Yahoo Sports]
After watching Texas lose flounder with a young coach, it’s so fun to revel in having an established coach with his program peaking.
