Davon Dillard, Zack Dawson No Longer Part of OSU Basketball Team

True freshman guard Zack Dawson and junior wing Davon Dillard are no longer part of the men’s basketball team, OSU announced on Friday.
According to a team release, the two failed to meet the standards of Oklahoma State.
“Being a part of Cowboy basketball has always and will always be an honor and a privilege,” Boynton said in a prepared statement. “With that privilege comes great responsibilities and standards. Davon and Zack have failed to meet those standards and at this point it is necessary to move in a different direction. We wish both of them all the best as they continue their academic and athletic careers.”
Dawson, a four-star point guard out of Florida, was averaging 4.4 points and 1.6 assists per game in his true freshman campaign, although his playing time was largely pinched in the rotation. Dillard, meanwhile, was expected to be a major contributor in 2017. As the third leading returning scorer from last season, however, his production fell across the board this season as he struggled to maintain a consistent impact that boosted him into a larger role in 2016.
Dillard was averaging a mere 8 minutes and 4.3 points per game this season. Both he and Dawson began the season on a suspension that was eventually lifted.
