Five-star Armando Bacot Commits to UNC over OSU, Duke and Other Finalists

Five-star Class of 2019 big man prospect Armando Bacot made his college commitment on Thursday evening, picking the North Carolina Tar Heels over finalists OSU, Georgia, VCU and Duke.

North Carolina had long been the favorite to reel in Bacot among recruiting circles, so his commitment to Roy Williams’ program is none too surprising. The Virginia native held nearly 40 offers in total, but the Heels and their persistence to stick with him as one of their top targets won out in the end.

As for OSU, it appears a second-place finish is consolation for him. The Pokes’ coaching staff, namely Boynton, had long made a pointed effort to see him at every turn of the process, but he ultimately chose to stay closer to home instead of uprooting and moving cross-country.

Despite losing out on the Bacot sweepstakes, Oklahoma State still has its sights set on big-game hunting in the 2019 cycle. In addition to current commits Kalib and Keylan Boone, OSU is aggressively targeting four-star, top-100 guard Avery Anderson out of Texas — and things are looking good on that front.

OSU could choose to allocate its third (and potentially final) scholarship in the 2019 cycle for another big man, but with Bacot off the board and 6-foot-8 Kalib Boone in the fold, another guard — such as Anderson or Mario McKinney — may be the most likely avenue the staff takes to fill out its third spot in the class.
