Five-star in-state prospect Dax Hill dropped a Twitter bombsell on Tuesday declaring his commitment to Michigan.

His decision was somewhat expected, as the Wolverines had been trending as a favorite for weeks, if not months. But it was still a surprise, if only because we’ve waited on eggshells for months with optimism that he may stay within the state … and that it may be OSU.

It wasn’t and he isn’t, but he not only provided that answer to where he’s decided to attend on Tuesday, but he also explained why he made it.

“First, I thank God for putting me in this position and giving me the talent to perform with my teammates. I thank my team for getting me better everyday and I wouldn’t be here without you guys. Secondly, I would like to thank my parents for sacrificing their time to take me to practices, games and their support throughout this process. A huge shoutout to my trainer, Dwight Dobbins, for taking the time to train me and improving me as a defensive back. Coach Rod Thompson, I appreciate you for developing me into the student athlete I am today. I thank all the universities for recruiting me and taking time to invest in me. With that being said, I will be committing to the University of Michigan! Go Blue”

Hill also went in-depth about Michigan in an exclusive interview last week with a Michigan 247 site, which should have set the alarm bells off. (They came from Michigan to do an interview in Oklahoma!)

“With Michigan I’ve created good relationships with the commits,” said Dax. “Mostly all of them at The Opening and before The Opening. Just texting them and we are in group chat. (I like) the coaches too… just the way I communicate with the coaches.

“Coach Moore has always been in communication with me. I know whenever I don’t text him back he’s always still texting me to make sure I’m all right (laughter). So that’s great coming from him. I’ve always been in communication with him. I’m always talking to coach Moore. If I’m not texting him, I’m calling him or face-timing him.”

Hill visited Michigan on an official basis over the weekend while OSU was beating up on Boise State, and it appears his decision was in mind. It may have been no more than a formality, actually, because his parents said the visit would ‘solidify some things’, presumably his final decision.

“(When) I went up there they talked about their alumni and how if football doesn’t work, you can always hit somebody up that used to go there,” Dax said of UM. “They’ll connect you with a person. So the alumni, that was one thing that I loved about (Michigan).”
