Gundy Puts Mullet’s Worth ‘in the Millions’ at Big 12 Media Day Presser
FRISCO, Tex. — It was bound to come up, and Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy jumped all over it.
When asked about the status of his mullet, Gundy priced his locks rather high.
“I’m gonna say that the dollar figure is somewhere in the millions for the amount of time we’ve had on the air for that,” he said. “I was very fortunate to get a new contract and should probably get an extension and a raise for that free marketing for the university.”
Gundy said he recently trimmed the mullet after it got to “ponytail potential.” He said there are no plans of ridding it any time soon though, instead he plans to “probably let it grow.” That’s probably a good thing for all of us.
Sportscenter and hockey analyst Barry Melrose had Gundy on a few months ago, which certainly boosted the mullet’s popularity. He said that is also to the credit of the marketing and social media teams.
“I think that would be a good subject for marketing majors, graduate students to look into,” Gundy said.
