Hit Play: OSU’s Win over Baylor Was Full of Highlight Reel-Worthy Plays

Published

on

The Cowboys rolled over the Bears inside Boone Pickens Stadium on Saturday and there was no shortage of highlight plays. But we had to pick out four to present for your consideration — and here they are.

Again, the top play each week — as decided by you — will make it to a pre-bowl playoff where you will then be able to decide the best play of the year.

James Washington’s 68-yard TD

This guy is so good at football. I mean, these are Division-I athletes he is reducing to JV status and he does it every week. I would talk about the significance of a 68-yard touchdown catch from Rudolph to Washington but it’s really just old hat — which is part of what makes them so great. I’m going to miss these two when they’re gone.

Justice runs downHill for a career-long 79-yard TD

This one was fun. From personal experience, I can tell you that anyone on the south side of the stadium just assumed Justice had stepped out of bounds somewhere around his own 40-yard line.

There was a scrum and all of the sudden No. 5 pops out along the sideline and goes house. I’m glad we were wrong. This 79-yarder was the longest of Hill’s career and the longest rushing play by a Cowboy since 2011 when Herschel Sims ran 81 into the end zone… against Baylor. The Cowboys won that game 59-24.

Phillips-Walterscheid Strip-Sack to Save the day

After Oklahoma State had given up an opening-drive touchdown and then spent its first offensive possession on a punt, the Cowboy defense force a crucial Baylor punt — that was muffed by Jalen McCleskey. The feeling inside BPS was somewhere between “meh” and “OMG, what is happening?!?!” That’s when Justin Phillips and Cole Walterschied put our collective minds at ease with this masterful defensive takeaway.

“There goes Corn Dog for the touchdown. Forty yards!”

Great call, by the way. This game was far past over but the little hard-sell juke to open up a running lane lands the Oil Baron’s first touchdown of the season on our ballot for this week.
