Last season wasn’t the first time OSU has struggled against the Salukis, as Southern Illinois somehow holds a 5-2 advantage over the Pokes all-time.

OSU had a 13-point second-half lead against the Salukis last season before Marcus Domask hit a 3 with 22 seconds to play to upset the Pokes. That was one of nine 3s Southern Illinois made that day; OSU shot only 16 3s, making four. That and OSU’s 14 turnovers to SIU’s nine were the major difference, as OSU outrebounded SIU 43-31 and still lost.

The last time these teams met in Carbondale was the 2007-08 season, where SIU beat the Sean Sutton-led Pokes 69-53. Terrel Harris scored 20 off the bench to lead the Pokes that day, but poor 3-point shooting was a thing even back then, as OSU went 4-for-25 from deep. SIU’s Matt Shaw equaled that output himself, going 4-for-7 from 3 and finishing with a game-high 21 points.
