Instacap: Oklahoma State Outlasts Texas in Overtime 13-10

Half-full, lifeless and quiet. That’s how I would describe both the crowd in Austin on Saturday, and the sputtering OSU offense.

The Cowboys and their prolific attack were slowed to a crawl Saturday in part due to a questionable 50-to-36 run-to-pass ratio in regulation. With virtually no success on the ground (2.9 ypc), OSU continuously pounded the ball.

OSU had plenty of shots to win the game in regulation. First, a Matt Ammendola field goal that would have put OSU ahead pushed wide right. Then, with possession and a chance to go down and score the go-ahead points, OSU opted for three-straight runs and punted to Texas, eventually sending it to OT where Ammendola snuck in a go-ahead FG in the first possession. Ramon Richards sealed it with this INT.

Rudolph tossed for 282 yards and no TDs or INTs on 25-of-38 passing in the win and wasn’t able to get his playmakers involved. James Washington logged just 32 yards while Ateman led all receivers with 87.

On the ground game, Hill led the way with 117, and J.D. King poured in 43 of his own despite struggles to stay healthy on the offensive line.

“We had a few issues here and there,” said Gundy. “I’m just proud of our team. We keep fighting. .. It was a hell of a game. We just made too many mistakes on offense and on special teams. We really got to improve.”

It was a knockout, drag-out dog fight that I’m not sure will go at the top of Mike Yurcich’s resume, but OSU is now 6-1 and remains squarely in the hunt for a Big 12 title with an upset avoided in Austin.
