NFL Storylines: Mason Rudolph to Be Fined, Emmanuel Ogbah Place on IR
It was a wild week in the NFL for former Pokes.
There’s rarely a shortage of things to talk about when it comes to former Cowboys in the NFL, but this week was as wild as any I can remember.
Let’s start with football-related news, and we’ll get to the drama that kicked off the NFL’s Week 11 below.
Blake Jarwin Continues to Produce in Limited Role
I talked last week about Blake Jarwin’s case for reps over an aging Jason Witten, and that case continues to get stronger. Jarwin caught both of his targets in the Cowboys’ 35-27 win over the Lions for 38 yards in 23 offensive snaps. Compare that to 33 yards on seven targets for Witten who started and played 65 snaps.
There are reasons, I’m sure, that Witten is getting the heavy nod over Jarwin. (He is a future Hall of Famer.) And who am I to question Jason Garrett? But here’s a string of tweets that support the growing #JarwinOverWitten sect of Cowboys fans.
Blake Jarwin has averaged 9.8 yards per target (197 yards/20 targets) this season.
That is the best in the NFL of 42 qualified tight ends. League average is 7.5. pic.twitter.com/QAB3MZgo7m

Blake Jarwin has had receptions of 28, 22, 35, 42, 26 & 23 this season; Witten has had a 33 and a 20

Blake Jarwin should play more snaps than Jason Witten

Witten returned from a one-year retirement to usurp the budding tight end star and signed a one-year deal with Dallas. Jarwin is also facing free agency this spring. If Witten does re-up with America’s team, could Jarwin find a suitor elsewhere? With his production and big-play ability, he’s got to at least be on the radar for a number of NFL teams.
Emmanuel Ogbah Placed on IR
The former Big 12 DL of the Year suffered a torn right pectoral muscle a week ago during the Chiefs’ loss to the Titans. It was expected to be a longterm injury, so it came as little surprise on Monday when Kansas City announced the fourth-year edge rusher had been placed on the injured reserve list.
As expected, the Chiefs placed Emmanuel Ogbah on IR with his torn pec. Gehrig Dieter gets the call from the practice squad.

Before leaving the game against Tennessee, Ogbah had pushed his season sack total to a career-best 5.5, which leads Kansas City. He is set to be an unrestricted free agent next year.
Injury Added to Insult for Mason Rudolph
What promised to be an intriguing, if not fun, rematch of college rivals-turned-division rivals in Mason Rudolph and Baker Mayfield got ugly quick for the former. And then it got a different kind of ugly at the end.
Rudolph threw a career-high (college career included) four interceptions and, frankly, could have thrown a couple more that were dropped by defenders. It was, by far, his worst outing as a pro and ended a four-game winning streak for the Steelers and dropped him to 4-3 as a starter.
The Steelers were down by two touchdowns, and it was up to Rudolph to take the final snap with just seconds remaining. What happened after that has been replayed, discussed and Twitter fought about ad nauseam for the last five days.
Myles Garrett and Mason Rudolph got into an on-field scuffle fueled by frustration and egos, and Garrett crossed the line by using Rudolph’s helmet as a weapon. Garrett was suspended indefinitely, but is appealing. Rudolph will get fined. Each had a teammate miss at least one game.
Steelers’ QB Mason Rudolph, who was not suspended for his role in the fight, is expected to be fined for his role in Thursday night’s melee. The fine schedule calls for a player to be fined $35,096 for a first-time fighting offense.

Mike Gundy was even asked about the incident during his pre-West Virginia press conference.
Gundy on Mason Rudolph:
“He’s had a lot of things happen to him in a short time … the only guy that’s gotten hit in the head with a helmet I think in the NFL …”
“He’ll be fine.”
Says for future reference that when the helmet comes off, you usually go the other way

Once you get past the fact that Rudolph was not seriously injured — which is the most important part — the whole thing has become rather tiring.
Privately, some within the Browns organization – though not making excuses for Myles Garrett’s action – hope what led him to anger, particularly whether Mason Rudolph made contact with Garrett’s groin area, will help Garrett’s appeal process, per sources.

Interesting sidelight to Wednesday’s appeal in New York: Browns’ DE Myles Garrett wants to do it in person, and is planning to be there to state his case in person, per source. https://t.co/zdTkYaUAKA

But there will be more news, more silly takes and probably some frame-by-frame breakdown analyzing Rudolph’s intentions before being ironically clobbered over the head with his own safety equipment.
Fortunately, Garrett was kinda enough to hit him with the open side of the helmet. (Warning: grownup language)
