Oklahoma State Offers Class of 2019 Pro-Style QB Zach Calzada

The hunt for a signal-caller in the 2019 class continues. After a flirtation with Grant Gunnell and a short chase with the likes of Graham Mertz, Grant Tisdale, Bo Nix and several others, the OSU staff has made its way to Georgia with a new offer to Zach Calzada.

Calzada is a 6-foot-3 pro-style prospect from Buford, Georgia, whose stock has absolutely exploded of late. He boasts 35 scholarship offers, and eleven have come in the month of May alone. NC State, Minnesota, North Carolina, Mizzou and Vandy are the biggest ones worth noting.

Perhaps it’s coincidence (or maybe not) that SB Nation ran a story at the end of April on Calzada, labeling him one of the 2019’s best sleeper QB recruits. In the story, he was compared to Baker Mayfield.

Sunday at the Under Armour All-America Game camp in Charlotte, I saw a QB with no star rating throw the heck out of the ball. Winds gusted north of 20MPH, and Zach Calzada, of Sugar Hill (Ga.) Lanier had no problem driving the football, as the throws of other QBs fluttered.

Calzada has blossomed from 5-10 to 6-3 in a matter of a year, and with it, a new level of attention on the recruiting trail has followed.

Calzada told SB Nation that he intends to take visits after the spring but, if he finds a spot he likes, he wants to commit, knowing full well that QB spots fill up quicker than most.
