Oklahoma State Starts 6-0 for Just Sixth Time Ever
1945, 1997, 2008, 2010, 2011 and 2015. The best starts in school history.
There are a lot of terms you could use to describe this team. “Mediocre” is one. So is “lucky.” Another one? “Historic.”
This 2015 team became just the sixth in OSU history to start a season 6-0. The other five came in 1945, 1997, 2008, 2010 and 2011. Strangely, the team last year would have started 6-0 if it would have played Central Michigan and not Florida State in the first game. Only the 1945 and 2011 teams made it to Halloween still undefeated (like OSU will do if it beats Kansas in two weeks).
That’s pretty crazy. For as much as we’ve moaned about this squad, it’s on the cusp of doing something only two OSU teams have ever done.
Here’s how those teams finished the final seven games after starting 6-0.
1945: 3-0
1997: 2-4
2008: 3-4
2010: 5-2
2011: 6-1
“Really proud of our team coming on the road and being resilient in overtime,” Gundy said. “…We’re excited about being 6-0, but we need a week off. The accumulation of the last 10 weeks [since the start of practice in early August] and the last two games, we were beat down a little bit but they found a way to win,” he continued.
Somehow, they willed themselves to another W.
