It’s been quite a week for transfers in the world of Oklahoma State. First it was tight end Grayson Boomer, then cornerback Xavier Player, and now, JayVeon Cardwell, according to 247Sports.

Cardwell is a redshirt freshman cornerback at OSU. He didn’t play at all last season, and according to OSU’s tracking stats, he participated in only three games this season — mainly on special teams — but did not record a statistic.

Entering the transfer portal does not preclude a return, but it gives OSU the option to not renew his scholarship. It also gives other coaches from other schools the ability to contact him.

Cardwell was a three-star corner who signed with OSU in the 2018 recruiting class. He committed to the Cowboys over offers from Ole Miss, Colorado, Duke and others.

Losing Cardwell would be a hit to a cornerback group undergoing substantial turnover this offseason. In addition to likely losing fellow cornerback Xavier Player, OSU is also set to lose seniors A.J. Green, Bryce Balous and Kemah Siverand. Redshirt junior Rodarius Williams may also contemplate a leap to the NFL to join his brother, Greedy Williams, a former LSU standout who was selected in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns.
