OSU Football: Eric Morris Lands a Slew of UNT Transfers
Recapping a day of green to orange.
While the ability to attract his best former players wasn’t the No. 1 reason OSU brought in Eric Morris, it is a benefit that crossed the mind of many a Cowboy fan once he was hired. That notion came to fruition this weekend.
It started with Morris landing his franchise QB in Drew Mestemaker on Saturday, and it was followed by a slew of subsequent dominos falling throughout Sunday. There are potentially more UNT transfers to come, but let’s take a look at which former Mean Greens followed their quarterback to Stillwater.
Caleb Hawkins | RB | Sophomore in 2026
Hawkins, a Shawnee native, returns to his home state with three years of eligibility. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound freshman was a second team All-American after leading the American Conference and ranking (as of writing) sixth in the FBS in rushing. On3, 247Sports and ESPN all ranked Hawkins as the No. 2 running back in the portal.
Quinton Hammonds | S | Junior in 2026
Hammonds fills a crucial hole in the Cowboys’ secondary. In the last two years at UNT, he 105 total tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, a sack and three interceptions. Hammonds started 10 games for the Mean Green last season and his 9% miss percentage tied for the best in the conference among qualifying safeties.
Miles Coleman | WR | Junior in 2026
Mestemaker gets to keep his longest-running target. The 5-foot-6, 159-pound playmaker was high school teammates with the Cowboys’ new QB. But that’s not the only reason Morris wanted to bring him to Stillwater. Over his first two collegiate seasons, Coleman amassed 928 yards and four touchdowns while averaging over 11 yards per catch.
Desmond Magiya | OL | Junior in 2026
The 6-foot-5, 329-pound bruiser played 20 games over the last two seasons and guarded Mestemaker’s blindside in a couple of games due to injuries. He’s big guy with familiarity in the system and in 182 snaps he didn’t allow a single sack according to PFF.
Braydon Nelson | OL | Junior in 2026
Nelson was Mestemaker’s key defender for most of that record-setting season. He started all 13 games including 11 at left tackle. In 2024, he appeared in 12 games and started 11, and was named to the Pro Football Focus (PFF) FBS All-Freshman team.
Wyatt Young | WR | Junior in 2026
Eric Morris landed all of his Big 3. Young led the American Conference in receiving yards last season and ranked third in the FBS. He was a First Team All-American Conference and a PFSN First Team All-American. The 6-foot, 195-pound deep playmaker should step in nicely as the next OSU star wideout.
Johnny Dickson III | OL | Senior in 2026
It all comes full circle. OSU was Dickson’s first college offer, but he chose Virginia Tech where he played 10 games in two seasons. At UNT, he played 23 games and started 13 games in 2025 at right guard for the Mean Green.
Terrence Lewis | WR | Sophomore in 2026
Lewis got on the field regularly as a true freshman for Eric Morris in 2025. The 5-foot-11, 165-pound receiver from Brenham, Texas caught 11 passes for 184 yards and two touchdowns in his first year of college ball with 90 of his receiving yards coming after the catch.
