OSU Recruiting: In-State Stars Headline Cowboys Wish List on Defense to Close out 2019
At this point in the recruiting cycle, coaching staffs not only have a pretty good idea of who they’ve got coming in, but also a working big board of sorts of who is still left on the radar they’re in the hunt with.
For OSU in 2019, there are some big names — and the biggest come from within the state borders.
Let’s take a look at the five biggest targets for OSU on the defensive side of the ball as OSU looks to close out its 2019 class over the coming months.
Trace Ford | 6-2.5, 218-pounds | Defensive End
In-state standout Collin Clay picked Arkansas over Oklahoma State this past week, but all is not lost. In fact, Trace Ford, the Edmond Santa Fe product, is probably the preferred prospect of the two — and OSU is in the thick of it.
Ford has close to 20 total offers including OSU, Arkansas, Baylor, Florida State and Cal, but the Pokes feel good about their chances. Like Clay, this may be a Hogs-Pokes battle to the end.
Kevon Glenn | 6-1, 220-pounds | Inside Linebacker
With 44 total offers to his name, Glenn has his pick of the litter on where he’ll end up. But OSU is in the thick of things, considering most of his offers are middle-tier to middle-upper-tier programs like Nebraska, Kentucky, NC State, Texas A&M, Duke and a handful of others. OSU doesn’t have an ILB commitment in 2019, so he’s a big target for new DC Jim Knowles and the Pokes.
Myles Jernigan | 6-3, 209-pounds | Outside Linebacker
Baylor is the 247sports crystal ball favorite, but OSU has an under-the-radar advantage by holding a commitment from his relative, Jayden Jernigan, a Class of 2019 defensive tackle from Allen who committed to the Pokes not long ago. That relationship could definitely boost OSU’s shot at bringing in dual-Jernigans this cycle.
Dax Hill | 6-0.5, 187-pounds | Safety
Everyone knows about Dax Hill, the in-state five-star from Booker T. who is down to Bama, Michigan, OU, OSU, Clemson and Ohio State. Yet nobody knows who is actually the favorite. My guess: It’s Bama, Michigan, OSU in some order. And it might change daily.
Jonathan McGill | 5-9. 175-pounds | Safety
McGill has 20+ offers, and at the top: Stanford, Texas Tech, Washington State and Oklahoma State. The Pokes are in his final grouping, which he released this week, and are holding out hope for him. What Dax Hill decides to do may affect his decision, but the Stanford Cardinal appear to be the current favorite.
