PFB Comments of the Week (Nov. 3)

Published

on

Its the most wonderful, and definitely the most interesting weekend in Oklahoma sports. That’s right, it’s Bedlam week. The Cowboys take on the Sooners for the driver’s seat in the Big 12. Unlike the last two years, this year’s installment of Bedlam football won’t decide the champion of the conference, rather it will be instrumental in determining who will play in the conference championship game.

Adrian Baker parted ways with the Pokes, the first college football playoff rankings were released this week, and College GameDay is returning to Stillwater for the first time since Bedlam 2015. Women’s soccer also won a Big 12 Championship. With all the excitement and nervousness leading up to the game, here are the top comments from the site this week.

1. Do your thing, Mr. Bundage

Yes- light him up Bundage…Baker hasn’t taken a good hit all yr and now he looks like he thinks he wants deliver some hits himself at the end of runs. I think OSU has some backers that can stop that nonsense. –No name on Baker Mayfield’s willingness to lower his shoulder against linebackers.

Calvin Bundage has the means and the swag to knock the chip clean off Baker Mayfield’s shoulder. I would love to see Baker try and lower his shoulder against Bundage. That’s a battle he’ll lose every time.

2. Gundy’s Bedlam Problems

Have to go with history here. He’s done nothing in the last five years to support any belief in an aggressive game plan. Those are reserved for come-from-behind wins and bowl games based on what I’ve seen. Gundy just isn’t into eviscerating opponents like Holgy and other coaches. Gundy takes the Snyder approach, which is admirable, everywhere save for the gridiron. -Adam M on Gundy’s lack of killer instinct.

Gundy has proven that he can win this way, just not against the Sooners. The whole coaching staff will have to coach with their hair on fire if OSU wants to win Bedlam this year, and any year after.

3. College Football Playoff Committee Guidelines

Shows that the committee is following the guidelines. Head to head matters, which means that if we win out they would likely follow the rest of the guidelines and put us ahead of Ohio state also. We may need some help getting into the final 4 but opportunity should open up. –Scott on the College Football Playoff Committee’s guidelines.

If the CFP Committee uses these guidelines for the rest of the season, that would make wins over Oklahoma and Iowa State, the next two opponents for OSU, extremely valuable. I still believe that OSU will make the playoff if they run the table. If OSU wins Bedlam this week, they should move above OU, and probably Miami and Wisconsin as well.

4. Bedlam Atmosphere

You bet the signs will be rated R on Saturday. I want this place to raise hell. BPS better be poppin and loud as all get out. –Best Comment of the year on the Bedlam atmosphere.

BPS better be loud enough to see the chip on Baker Mayfield’s shoulder growing after every play. Every person in the stadium needs to be yelling loud for themselves, and louder for those Pokes who can’t make it to the game. Of course, this is exactly the atmosphere that Baker Mayfield loves to play in, but that doesn’t mean it won’t possibly force some mistakes.

5. Slowing Down Obo Okoronkwo

My opinion is whomever OBO is against can’t let him extend his arms to them which means they will have to bat his extended arm up or down which should bring his body to close contact with the blocker. This is not what OBO will want since he is smaller than both offensive tackles. This should also slow his momentum down. It would be great to see what technic OLC is teaching as we speak! –Mark on slowing down Obo Okoronkwo.

If the Cowboys want to win Bedlam this Saturday, the offensive line will have to slow down Obo Okoronkwo. He will get into the OSU backfield, he just can’t live in the OSU backfield. If he does, the OSU offense will be in for a long day.

6. Trick Plays

Not worried about OU having a single receiver that we cannot cover. I’m more worried about Lincoln’s play-calling, and our ability to get pressure on Baker. Lincoln comes up with some freaky stuff, and this week would be the perfect time for him to bring some of those out. the Flowers pass in Bedlam last year was incredible. OSU had no chance of defending that. Getting pressure on Baker will be huge too. Half of his big pass plays are just the O-line holding off DL’s long enough that the receivers eventually break away from the DB’s. We can’t go into prevent defense. He will shred us. we gotta be ultra aggressive, and trust our DB’s in one-on-one coverage. I think they can hold their own just fine. –OSU Student on Lincoln Riley and the OSU defense.

At some point in this game, both teams are going to have to get a little creative with their play-calling on both sides of the ball. That’s just the nature of Bedlam. Especially if Gundy’s claim that OSU and OU have each others signs is true. Hopefully the coaching staff has several trick plays up their sleeves.

7. Scheming for Mark Andrews

The biggest question that hasn’t been addressed is how OKstate slows down Mark Andrews. We haven’t faced a true Tight End this season. Tre Flowers makes sense, but that takes him out of run defense. I think he could be the true X factor in this game if we can’t slow him down, without spending too many resources doing it. –Mark on OSU’s defensive game plan.

The OSU defense has played at elite levels the last two weeks, and they’ll have to continue this on Saturday to win Bedlam. Glenn Spencer will need to have an excellent game plan as well. I’d like to see him switch up coverages and move players around in the secondary to keep the Sooners on their toes.

8. Bedlam Uniform Combos

Anything but white-orange-white. Every home game has been that so far. Black-Orange-Black, Black-Orange-Orange, or All-Black please. –Kurt Templeton on Bedlam Uniform Combos.

The Pokes should go with an orange and black look for the in state rivalry. Bedlam also serves a great opportunity for a return of the brand, although, they’ll probably go back to the barbed wire badge helmets. No matter which way OSU decides to go on Saturday, they’ll have the cleaner looking uniforms.

9. Fan of the Week

I literally had the cops called on me at my apartment complex this last Saturday for screaming at the TV … will you all bring back the Gameday thread so I can point my frustrations elsewhere? –David Issac Mosley on game day frustrations.

Can someone get this man a ticket on the 50 yard line this Saturday? This should be the noise level of all 60,000 people that will pack inside BPS on Saturday.

10. National Attention

They show OKST no love. Ou beats Tech at home and moves up 2. We win on the road in Morgantown against #22 team in the country. We’re still at #11. –StillOriginal on OSU not getting national respect.

There’s only one thing OSU can do about this: win out. Win enough games and eventually the nation will have to respect you. A few Big 12 championships here and there might help as well.
