PFB Roundtable: Predicting Where Delrick Abrams Commits
Three-star 2018 defensive back Delrick Abrams Jr. has set his commitment date for Friday and will pick between OSU, Mississippi State and Colorado. The PFB team roundtabled on the junior college product from Independence C.C. about the importance of landing him, what it might mean for OSU’s secondary moving forward, as well as predictions about where he will land.
Boone: Delrick Abrams is committing on Friday. Given what OSU has at safety in the class, how important do you think landing a JUCO player like him is?
Porter: I think it’s important for the sole reason that they don’t currently have any junior safeties. There might be a lot of talent, but you’re losing experience with Tre Flowers, Ramon Richards and Jerel Morrow exiting. As Hayden noted last week, you can’t ever have enough athletic safeties.
Thomas: In my opinion you can never have enough DBs, especially at his size. He could probably get around 200 or so, and with his height and ball skills he could be pretty good.
Cox: At 6-3 and with his athleticism, he could also play corner which is a definite a need for the Cowboys. [KB are they only looking at him for safety?]
Boone: Yeah he plays corner now but OSU is recruiting him as a safety. He’s mentioned they’re comparing him to Tre Flowers (which they seek to do with all tall DB’s)
Thomas: Big safeties who have cover skills are
Cox: If it’s possible that Ramon gets reps at corner, then the secondary is somewhat fluid. Can’t have too many rangy athletic guys, in my opinion.
Steven: For real can’t remember the last time OSU didn’t have at least a pair of “sure thing” legit, producing safeties (mid 2000’s?). You could see Delrick have a stabilizing effect on the safety room similar to what Adrian Baker will this year for the corners.
Boone: Good point. Experience is pretty undervalued, even if it’s just JUCO level experience.
Porter: Gabe Lindsay 4Ever
Boone: So who do we think he’s picking Friday between OSU, Colorado and Mississippi State?
Cox: Remember the Alamo
I’ll go with optimism here and say OSU. Best chance to win next year.
Thomas: Mississippi St. but I know nothing and just want to be different
Critics can’t say we’re a homer site now
Cox: ?
Steven: Depends if he wants to cover tight ends and play run support (95% of the game) or have plenty of film defending the pass. Colorado should prob be third since they lost their DC to Oregon.
What’s his strength, KB – more pass or run kinda guy?
Thomas:
Boone:
Porter: Haha, remember the Alamo. I’ll say Oklahoma State. Mississippi State and Colorado don’t appear to have the senior safeties that Oklahoma State has so I think his best chance to play/shine is in Stillwater.
Boone: Agreed with that, but I don’t think recruits think things like playing time/depth all the way through. I’ll take Mississippi State.
@steven.mandeville he’s more a pass guy. Good in coverage and long.
Porter: I love that photo of Gundy so much.
Boone: Can’t believe I also got to squeeze OSU’s future head coach into the same screenshot!
Porter: ?
Carson: Mullet > soul patch
Boone: Soul patch + mullet though? That’d be a game changer
Steven: Dude will shine as a pass defender in Stillwater – pistols firing.
