For better or worse, Big 12 football and Oklahoma State football are known for gaudy offensive numbers.

The Cowboys’ impact on offensive football can now be seen throughout the country, but not every imitation is as fun as the original.

In this record book look, we’ll take a gander at the five games the Cowboys have gained the most total yards in. All of these games happened in Boone Pickens Stadium.

1. Baylor in 2017 — 744

The first year of the Matt Rhule era was not a kind one to the Bears.

Donning some slick throwback helmets and striped socks, the No. 14 Cowboys pounded an 0-5 Baylor team to the tune of 744 yards of total offense.

Mason Rudolph had 459 passing yards and Justice Hill had 117 rushing yards.

There were big plays galore. Hill had a 79-yard touchdown run. James Washington had a 68-yard catch and run. Marcell Atemen had a 38-yard score. Shoot, even a back-up Taylor Cornelius scored on a 40-yard run.

2. Louisiana in 2012 — 742

Wes Lunt was seemed to be the favorite of OSU’s three-headed quarterback battle in 2012, but he was hurt six plays into this game, and J.W. Walsh put a hurting on the Ragin’ Cajuns.

Walsh threw for 347 yards and four touchdowns while running for 73 yards and another score in the Cowboys 65-24 win. Walsh had 30 pass attempts to Lunt and Clint Chelf’s combined seven.

Blake Jackson had 112 receiving yards and Josh Stewart had 104. Joe Randle ran for 105 yards and two scores.

3. Missouri State in 2018 — 732

This is the only game on this list where the Cowboys ran for more yards than they threw for.

This list of people combined for 431 rushing yards: Justice Hill (122), LD Brown (110), J.D. King (52), Keondre Wudtee (47), Chuba Hubbard (42), Taylor Cornelius (27), Ryan Haymaker (26) and Jalen McCleskey (5).

So, Hubbard, who would run for 2,094 yards the next year, was the Cowboys’ fifth-leading rusher in that game. That is terrifying. Hubbard had more receiving yards (65) in the game than he did rushing yards.

Cornelius threw for 300 yards and five touchdowns, as the Pokes handled the FCS Bears 58-17.

4. Baylor in 2010 — 725

This was thought to be a good matchup in 2010, as Baylor was ranked 22nd in the country to OSU’s No. 19, but Robert Griffin III couldn’t hang with Brandon Weeden’s offense.

Weeden threw for 435 yards and three touchdowns as OSU thumped Baylor 55-28.

Justin Blackmon had 242 total yards with 69 of those coming on his only rushing attempt of the game, a touchdown. Joe Randle, Kendall Hunter and Jeremy Smith combined for 202 rushing yards, and OSU rolled to an 8-1 record.

5. Tulsa in 2010 — 722

At the beginning of that 2010 season, Weeden torched in-state foe Tulsa.

OSU’s QB threw for 435 yards and six touchdowns. Blackmon caught six balls for 174 yards and three scores. The Randle/Hunter/Smith trio had 163 rushing yards.
