Record Book Look: Oklahoma State’s Career Passing List

Through these record book looks over the past few weeks, we’ve danced around Oklahoma State’s all-time great passers, but today we’ll look at the career list.

A cool aspect of this list is how well it mirrors OSU’s all-time great receivers. These quarterbacks threw to James Washington, Justin Blackmon, Hart Lee Dykes, Dez Bryant and Rashaun Woods.

Spencer Sanders is in a good spot to one day make his way to this list. Despite missing a few games as a freshman, Sanders threw for 2,065 yards. Three more seasons of that would already put him on the list.

1. Mason Rudolph (2014-17) — 13,618

OSU’s career leader in passing yards completed his first pass on a rainy night in Waco in 2014.

It went for six yards, and Tyreek Hill was on the end of it. Mason Rudolph would complete 914 more passes as a Cowboy, and OSU would have a lot of success with him slinging the ball.

As a senior, Rudolph threw for 4,904 yards, a single-season record for OSU.

2. Brandon Weeden (2007-11) — 9,260

Brandon Weeden had just eight yards as a freshman and 248 as a sophomore, meaning he threw for 9,004 yards as an upperclassman.

Weeden’s best year came in 2011. He was 409-for-565 (season records in completions and attempts) and threw for 4,727 yards, the second most passing yards anyone has had in a season behind Rudolph’s senior year.

Weeden threw 75 touchdowns in his college career. Here are all 39 he threw to Justin Blackmon.

3. Mike Gundy (1986-89) — 8,473

OSU’s ole ball coach is the only player on this list who played before 2000.

People weren’t usually throwing 1,078 passes in the late 80s, but Mike Gundy was. His career attempts (1,078) and completions (636) are still third in OSU’s career record book, an impressive stat considering it happened in the I-formation of football history.

4. Zac Robinson (2005-09) — 8,317

Zac Robinson’s highest season total came as a junior when he threw for 3,064 yards, the eighth-most in a season in program history.

Despite being fourth on the career passing yards list, Robinson is actually ahead of his former coach in passing touchdowns. Robinson threw 66 to Gundy’s 57.

5. Josh Fields (2001-03) — 6,090

Josh Fields’ best numbers actually came as a sophomore.

Two years before launching his five-year MLB career, Fields threw for 3,145 yards.

Despite spending only three years in Stillwater, Fields did something no other QB on this list was able to do, he beat Oklahoma twice.
