Report: OSU Reaches Out to Sun Belt Player of the Year DeVante’ Jones
Jones averaged 19 points a game last season.
The Sun Belt Player of the Year entered the transfer portal on Tuesday, and Mike Boynton didn’t waste any time exchanging pleasantries with him.
Coastal Carolina’s DeVante’ Jones actually reentered the portal Tuesday after entering and withdrawing for the portal in a span of two hours on Friday. It looks as if Jones is in the portal for good now, and he has already heard from Oklahoma State, Texas, Texas Tech, TCU, Georgia, Memphis, Michigan and others, according to 247Sports’ Dushawn London.
Jones has also declared for the NBA Draft, though doing so without an agent.
Jones is a scorer. In the past three seasons for the Chanticleers, he has averaged 17 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4.2 assists a game. As a junior this past season, he averaged 19.3 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.8 steals a game.
A 6-foot-1, 200-pound guard from New Orleans, Jones was also the Sun Belt’s Freshman of the Year for the 2018-19 season. That year, he averaged 14 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.3 steals a game.
It looks as if OSU will have three scholarships to give this offseason, one of which has already gone to Syracuse transfer forward Woody Newton.
Other names to watch in the transfer market are Bryce Thompson (Kansas), Jaxson Robinson (Texas A&M), De’Vion Harmon (Oklahoma), Bayron Matos (New Mexico), Nick Ongenda (DePaul) and Bryson Williams (UTEP).
