Rivals’ Corey Evans Believes OSU Has ‘Slight Edge’ for Four-Star PG Courtney Ramey

With the college basketball signing period just two months away in mid-April, Oklahoma State’s focus after signing two frontcourt players last period is squarely on addressing the point guard position for 2018.

The staff made an interesting offer this week to Amir Harris, a former Rhode Island commit, but right now it appears there is a “Courtney Ramey or bust” mode.

Ramey, a four-star from Saint Louis, Missouri, was previously committed to Louisville before Rick Pitino’s ouster with the Cardinals. He was being heavily pursued by both UCLA and Villanova in the wake of his decommitment from UL, however with the Bruins taking Tyger Campbell and UCLA landing Jahvon Quinerly on Tuesday, his recruitment appears to be wide open.

I spoke with Corey Evans of Rivals on Tuesday about Ramey’s recruitment and he gave an inside look into Ramey’s recruitment process. Let’s just say things are looking encouraging for OSU .. for now.

“At this point in time, he’s taken two visits so far: that was to Oklahoma State in December, and also to Texas,” said Evans. “So those are the two frontrunners right now, and I think Oklahoma State has an edge over Texas. But a lot of schools are trying to get in the mix.

“South Carolina was in to see him Sunday, SMU was in to see him last week, and Illinois is a program that has began showing him a lot of attention. So I think they are definitely the dark horse right now.”

Illinois and Brad Underwood hold a commitment from five-star point guard Ayo Dosunmu in 2018, but Evans noted that the Illini are “gaining some traction” with Ramey — which would pretty much be a worst case scenario for OSU fans still reeling from Underwood’s stunning departure.

For now, though, OSU is in a good spot as his recruitment winds down, but it’s clear there is some work that needs to be done before the staff can seal the deal.

“Ohio State remains in the mix, and so does Clemson. But I believe Oklahoma State is in a good spot here,” said Evans.

Barring any shakeups with his recruitment, Ramey is expected to sign in the April signing period.
