Mike Boynton has been active on the crootin’ trail since his team’s NIT exit. He never really stopped. Boynton recently secured the promise of in-state twins Kalib and Keylan Boone for his 2019 class.

So let’s take a look at what he is working with in terms of roster, open scholarships and needs for 2018-19 and beyond.

First off, a look at the scholarships OSU currently has signed for the 2018-19 season.

Freshmen Sophomores Juniors Seniors
Yor Anei (F) Michael Weathers (G) Thomas Dziagwa (G) Mike Cunningham (G)
Duncan Demuth (F) Lindy Waters III (G)
Kentrevious Jones (C) Curtis Jones (G)
Cameron McGriff (F)
Lucas N’Guessan (C)

Much like Yankuba Sima last year, transfer Curtis Jones is not eligible until December of 2018.

So with 10 of his 13 scholarships inked, Boynton could still add another piece before the close of the signing period which ends May 16.

Needs

Floor Leadership — With the addition of graduate transfer Mike Cunningham, Oklahoma State helped to fill the hole left be departing point guards Kendall Smith and Brandon Averette. He and Michael Weathers are currently OSU’s lone floor generals but Indiana transfer Curtis Jones could handle the ball some if need be.

Past that, you’re looking to Lindy Waters and Thomas Dziagwa and neither gets me real fired up when it comes to bringing the ball down the court.

Scoring — The Cowboys lose a lot in terms of scoring with Jeffrey Carroll and Kendall Smith leaving. Not to mention Tavarius Shine, Averette and Solomon. In fact, OSU said goodbye to 70.2 percent of its scored points when you add up all its departures from the start of last season.

That’s where one of those three remaining scholarships could come in handy (and could get filled) as early as this week.

Three-star forward Maurice Calloo who is in Stillwater for his official visit this week, could provide much-needed scoring boost and would be eligible at the start of this coming season.
