The Reload: Henson Goes Offer Heavy in 2019

The Reload is PFB’s recruiting recap catching you up to speed with the latest Oklahoma State recruiting news, with an ear to the ground for what to expect in the future.

Henson Goes OL Happy for 2019

Offensive line coach Josh Henson has his cupboard completely stocked for 2018, with commitments from Bryce Bray, Tyrese Williams, Jacob Farrell, Hunter Anthony and Hunter Woodard. Now he’s already looking at 2019 with several new offers out this week.

Henson extended offers to a trio of prospects from all over the country — from Saint Louis to Alabaster, Alabama all the way up to Minnesota. The highest rated of the three is four-star, 6-foot-7 prospect Amari Kight of Thomspon High in Alabaster, Alabama.

Kight is ranked as the No. 146 overall player in 2019 and the No. 19 offensive tackle. He’s got 14 offers and counting from the likes of Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas, Florida, Kentucky, LSU, Tennessee and others.

Kight might be a pipe dream on paper just based off OSU’s success of recruiting blue-chips, but he told Scout recently he’s looking for two things in a school — neither of which explicitly spell out a requirement of being a traditional blueblood.

“I’m looking forward to pretty much any schools that produce good offensive linemen,” Kight said. “Like say Florida State, Wisconsin, Arkansas, any that have a history of good offensive linemen.

“I’m also looking for a place that has good hospitality, a good family feeling, feels like home and a place that I can grow as a player and as a man.”

Next among the new tackle offers is Minnesota native Bryce Benhart, a Lakeville North product who has already garnered attention from major schools up north. Thus far, he’s gathered offers from Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa State, Northwestern, UCLA and the Pokes.

Benhart is a 6-foot-7 prospect like the aforementioned Kight, and a beefy 285 with room to grow.

Benhart visited Wisconsin three separate occasions in 2017 for unofficial visits, and my guess is that prying him from the north will be a challenge even for an ace like Josh Henson.

The last of the offensive line offers is also the heaviest: Saint Louis product Ira Henry. As Ben DeWalt noted this week, Henry’s offer is more proof that — at least for this week — Henson has kind of gone national in his recruiting approach.

Henry’s a 6-foot-5 prospect from Trinity Catholic.

With 10 offers and counting, OSU is perhaps his most enticing to date. Louisville, Kentucky, Florida and Arkansas have all also made offers, but UF and Arkansas came in before they made coaching changes in the past month.

Glenn gets in on the action

Also on the board this week: Glenn Spencer!

Despite making his way around Texas for home visits, Glenn made an offer to 2019 outside linebacker Shammond Cooper — the teammate of fellow big man and new offer Ira Henry. Cooper is a four-star with 30 offers .. and OU is the presumptive favorite at this juncture.

So what is Cooper looking for at his college of choice?

“Somewhere where it’ll be a family,” he tells Rivals. “Somewhere I can get a good education, and somewhere that I can win.”
