In summation, Mike Gundy wasn’t a fan of his team’s short yardage offense or the number of field goals it lined up for.

Oklahoma State lost to Texas 36-30 on Saturday in Austin, starting the Cowboys 0-1 in Big 12 play. Here is a look at what Gundy had to say after the contest. He said his team kicked too many field goals so many times I left some out.

• Gundy starts by saying he is proud of the way his team continued to fight back into the game.

• OSU needed to do a better job of punching it in. Gundy said his squad settled for too many field goals.

• “Kicking field goals, it’s difficult to win big games. We’ve got to improve and get down there and find ways to score.”

• The team needs to do a better job at preventing penetration in and-short scenarios.

• “Do you think I give a rat’s a** about social media?”

• On the fake field goal: “I’d rather not talk about fakes.”

• Spencer Sanders played “pretty good.” Gundy noted that one of Sanders’ INTs was because his arm got hit on the throw. Gundy said Sanders competed and played hard.

• “They crowded Wallace the whole game, protected over the top of him. Essentially, when that happens, you end up running the football.”

• Gundy said his team needs to get better in the run game.

• Someone was supposed to be on Ehlinger on his game-icing run.

• OSU’s defense played “pretty good” considering a few turnovers put the defense in tough positions.

• Gundy thought his team had the onside kick at some point. He said it was perfectly executed, but OSU “just didn’t get the pinball.”

• The late facemasks and Landon Wolf’s illegal block were a concern.

• “We can talk about ifs and buts and all that, but if you score on the 1-yard line, you’re not really climbing uphill. After they stopped us there, we kind of felt like we were just trying to climb and climb and climb and couldn’t ever get to that point after that.”

• Gundy said they thought short-yardage scenarios could be tough against Texas, and it’s an area OSU needs to work on.

• Texas had a safety over the top of Tylan Wallace almost every play.

• Gundy reiterates they needed to be better in the short game and not kick so many field goals.

• Sanders was more calm that Gundy thought he would be. Gundy said Sanders didn’t get flustered like he did at Tulsa.

• “The guys chasing him today run pretty well, and he still made some competitive plays.”

• Gundy thought his defense did “pretty good” on containing Sam Ehlinger.

• On Ehlinger’s 73-yard touchdown pass, Jarrick Bernard wasn’t deep enough and A.J. Green didn’t get his hands on the receiver, Gundy said.

• “Everybody knows, they’re going to make some plays. They’ve got good players. The quarterback is playing good. He’s playing smart. Doesn’t make a lot of mistakes anymore.”
