Top 10 Comments: Bedlam. Bedlam. Bedlam.

All the Bedlam takes.

What a weekend! Let’s dive into your Top 10 Comments from Bedlam and other OSU happenings the last week.

1. On Gundy Explaining Corn will Run the Show in Bedlam

VACowboy: What is interesting is that Gundy is setting up his excuse for next year when we are 3-3 halfway through the season. I can hear it now. “Sanders just has not had enough reps at this point. He’s only played in a hand full of games. What the fans don’t understand is that it takes 15 games before he’s going to be effective at playing QB at this level.” (26 upvotes)

Only time will tell on this one. Fans should probably temper their expectations — talking to myself —  they place on the shoulders of next year’s QB in lieu of the fact that the coaching staff pledged its full support to Cornelius this year, explaining the disparity between he and the next two QBs was substantial.

2. More on Gundy Sticking with Corn

Aaron: Repeat after me: Gundy will not play another QB this entire season. Say it over and over until it sinks in.

Playing another QB gives the potential to show that Cornelius was the wrong choice this year and adds to the long list of problems Gundy has choosing a QB. We’ve seen the Mullet ego at all time highs this year. He will absolutely not risk it. Not even to get a guy reps heading in to next year.

Let. It. Go. (25 upvotes)

Aaron is right. But lets be honest, Corn played a hell-uh-va game Saturday, and Gundy’s decision to ride with him sure looks credible after turning in the performances he has against Texas and OU.

3. Trey Reeves was Put on Full Scholarship Last Week

Mr. Murphy (below) had to straighten some folks out in the comments section after some criticism was levied against Trey Reeves.

Sean Murphy: Reeves has been a contributor with the team since 2016 he may not have been a starter but only 5 guys can start. He has been a team player and contributor on the practice court. Giving the team a good look for upcoming opponents. Obviously leading in the classroom and on campus. You should be pumped that Boyton recognizes and rewards that kind of dedication. I applaud the move by coach. Hopefully this gesture goes a long way in encouraging future kids to walk on to the team. (16 upvotes)

Amen, Mr. Murphy. Look, whether or not Reeves will get playing time is neither here nor there. Boynton rewarded his commitment to the team with a scholarship that was otherwise going unused in the 18-19 season. If you want to be critical of that move, go for it.

4. On Porter’s 10 Thoughts — Another What-if

BA: Unfortunately, we can now amend your earlier article regarding recent Bedlam what-ifs.

However props to the team for playing their butt’s off. What’s aggravating is that if you play like that in every game, you are 8-2 and not 5-5. (14 upvotes)

The story for the ’15 and ’16 seasons was the exact opposite. The Pokes played pretty well and beat the teams they were supposed to in those seasons, but didn’t really show up in Bedlam. The last two years have been quite different. A 2017 Oklahoma State team, which we thought might live up to the hype of the 2011 squad, left plenty to be had on the field against K-State and TCU, but stood toe-to-toe with the Sooners until the end. The same has been true of 2018 thus far. The Pokes came into the ring swinging against Texas on Homecoming and against OU Saturday. Not so much against Texas Tech and K-State.

It’ll be interesting to see if this trend continues into the future, or if Gundy and Co. can right the ship in “should-win” games down the road, while maintaining aggression in Bedlam and other highly-touted matchups.

5. On Six Storylines to Track in Bedlam

Boone laid out several talking points that needed to go the Pokes way for a win in Norman. One of which was Gundy’s aggression. Here‘s what Boone had to say:

“Mike Gundy gets a bad rap, somewhat undeservedly, as a conservative coach who doesn’t like to take risks. That ain’t true! Or at least it hasn’t been this season.”

Doc Holliday: He is not undeservedly labeled as a conservative coach…this is the same guy who had Rudolph take a knee with 40 seconds in left in the first half at Norman with the ball at the 50 yard line. He’s so conservative I sometimes question how much he even likes to win (13 upvotes)

Sorry, Doc. Boone’s right! I’ve caught myself shouting at the television screen because the offense takes too many shots deep rather than establishing the run game. Gundy has been aggressive this year, no doubt. The Pokes have gone for more fourth downs than in recent memory. Trick plays? Let’s not forget the throwback to Corndog, the kinda(?) fake punt against Texas, and going for it on 4th and 3 last week against Baylor.

6. On Justice and Bedlam Trash Talk

Adam M: In a vacuum, his individual play against OU absolutely allows him to say what he did. Outside of that I’m with you. (13 upvotes)

I was truly bummed we didn’t get to see Justice in the second half against the Sooners. I don’t think they would’ve had an answer for the two-back sets with he and Chuba on the field. Hoping for a speedy recovery!

7. On Bedlam Instacap

Matt Haffner: Imagine the hysteria in the comment section if Gundy goes for the XP and Ammendola misses again. (13 upvotes)

I chuckled at this one.

8. More from Instacap

OSU Student: Weird to say, but that’s the most respectable loss I’ve ever been a part of. They played their asses off, and deserved that ballgame. Won’t mention names but one kid, in essence, blew that one. Hell of a game by the Pokes! (12 upvotes)

Agree with the first part. Disagree with the second. One player didn’t blow the game for OSU. In fact, even if OSU had the lead with a minute left, the Pokes would have had to stop a potential Heisman winner and the Big 12’s most explosive offense from marching down and scoring. Several plays throughout the first and second half could have went the Cowboys way and contributed to a victory. Never pin a game on one mishap.

9. More from Instacap

RealisticCowboy: Of course there will be plenty of people in the comments calling for Gundy’s head, blaming Cornelius for that last throw, and absolutely blaming Ammendola. To be honest that was as best as we could’ve played outside of special teams, some big time dropped passes, and an unfortunate fumble when we were driving. Be upset we lost but also be realistic to what this season has been. I think the effort was there just not the result we all were wanting. Either way on to the next game. (12 upvotes)

RealisticCowboy and Ack-er-rut Cowboy.

10. On PFB’s Bedlam Predictions

PokeinChief: I hate this weekend, maybe more than any other during the year. Shut off all local media, I don’t care.

Luckily, my kids have a soccer tournament that will keep me occupied in… [checks calendar] Norman? C’mon, man! (10 upvotes)

This was an amazing pre-game comment by PokeinChief. Not sure if you got to catch the game Saturday, but it was another What-if for the ages my friend!
