Viktor Hovland’s battle with the world No. 1 went an extra day, but the former Cowboy came out on top.

Hovland won the Traveler’s Championship on Monday morning with a birdie on a playoff hole, besting Scottie Scheffler. It marks Hovland’s eighth win on the PGA Tour.

Hovland gave a massive fist pump as he drained his winning putt.

Hovland and Scheffler both finished four rounds at 21-under, a stroke ahead of Collin Morikawa. Hovland and Scheffler had a battle on the final hole of regulation, where they each parred before it was decided that the playoff would take place Monday morning.

It made for a fun atmosphere with Scheffler being the American hero while a lot of Hovland’s Norwegian countrymen were also in the area for the World Cup. One of the Norwegians in New England was Hovland’s mother, who watched her son win in person for the first time.

It hasn’t been Hovland’s best season of golf, but things might be starting to turn around. He missed the cut at the PGA Championship in mid-May before turning around and taking third at the Canadian Open less than a month later. Then last weekend at the U.S. Open, Hovland again missed the cut just to turn around and win the Traveler’s.

Speaking of the U.S. Open, winner and former Cowboy Wyndham Clark was also among the leaders at the Traveler’s. He finished tied for fifth with an 18-under 262. Other Cowboys: Rickie Fowler finished tied for 38th, Alex Noren finished tied for 55th and Sam Stevens finished tied for 62nd.
