Good to be Wanted

Guerin Emig wrote a piece earlier this week looking back over the Gundy/Tennessee/OSU love triangle. Mike Holder’s comments point to the current status of the program.

“Other universities coveting our coach is very positive,” Holder said Monday. “It is a product of the investment made in football at OSU and a tribute to Boone Pickens, Mike Gundy and countless other generous people that have made our program successful…

“In my view, Mike listened but quickly decided that OSU was a better place for him and his family.” [TulsaWorld]

There are two different situations where coaches discuss openings with other jobs: one where they’re at a feeder program, a farm system of sorts, looking to move on to bigger pay and bigger challenges and one where they’re at a solid job but looking to get more from their current program (i.e. Jimbo Fisher pre-2017).

Call me cynical, but coaches don’t have publicly known conversations with other programs unless they’re in one of those two boats. Gundy, apparently, was in the latter.

Easy Money

For the Oklahoma State (basketball) offense to spin, it needs it’s finest piece, Jeffrey Carroll, to start humming.

Boynton said he would like to see Carroll stop living and dying with his jump shot.

“He had zero offensive rebounds today,” Boynton said Saturday.

The coach’s point has data to back it up. In Carroll’s best game this season, a 29-point effort against Pittsburgh, he pulled down nine rebounds — six on the offensive end. It’s the only game in which he has multiple offensive rebounds. [TulsaWorld]

That was the glorious thing about Jawun Evans: even if he was having a rough shooting night, he could produce by getting to the basket and getting folks open. As a wing, Mike Boynton and Jeff Carroll will have to figure out how to get him some easy stuff to get him going.

Maybe get him going towards the basket like this:

So You’re Telling Me There’s a Chance…

Considering Florida State’s chances to remain unbeaten, the Oklahoma State game was flagged as one to not overlook.

That Oklahoma State game later this week is trickier than you might think. Florida State should win, but just keep an eye on it. The Notes blipped the national radar with their 83-66 beatdown at Florida on Dec. 4. Other than that, not a lot. [CBS Sports]

The Noles haven’t faced a whole lot yet while the Pokes have seen a couple of top teams in Wichita State and Texas A&M. Maybe being battle tested could give the Pokes an edge today.

Antiquing for the W!

First legit rim protector since… Philip Jurick?

5’11” wide receiver from Mustang just committed to walkon at OSU. No pressure to become David Glidden, Josh Cooper 5.0!

My goodness this leap Thursday night was insane.
