Logically Illogical
Wednesday’s big win over Texas Tech was a good picture of the 2017-2018 Cowboy basketball season.
Even as senior forward Mitchell Solomon, the Cowboys’ steadiest performer, spent most of the game in foul trouble, OSU found a way to deliver a top-10 upset to the fans who came to the stadium through icy conditions.
Those fans chanted “overrated” as the final seconds ticked off the clock. They stormed the court, reveling in the fact OSU has victories over each of the Big 12’s top three teams. [NewsOK]
It made sense because of how unlikely it was – therefore it should have been assumed it would turn out well. Solomon in his usual foul trouble? Check. Weeknight game at 6 p.m., ice storm and sparse attendance? You bet. Top ten team vying for a conference title? No problem.
It felt eerily similar to the 2012 upset of Missouri as well.
Turning the Tide
As they’ve done multiple times this season – the Pokes surprised and revived their near-flatlining tourney hopes.
And crazy enough, OSU’s NCAA Tournament hopes live again. Not strongly. The Cowboys’ ratings percentage index (RPI) remains in the depths (96th), but OSU has at least a fighting chance of getting to 8-10 in the Big 12 and making the basketball committee consider the Cowboys.
OSU finishes at Texas, at Iowa State and home against Kansas.
If the Cowboys can play the way they played against Tech, they can make these next two weeks interesting. [NewsOK]
Win out – or two of three – and you’ve got a top-heavy resume that will turn some heads.
