• If you can – read this piece comparing Mike Gundy at Oklahoma State to Mike Leach at Texas Tech – you should. Eerily similar while not identical. Here’s a snippet:

Gundy’s contract calls for a $17 million buyout unless he’s fired with cause. Ten years ago, Texas Tech found cause. It also found itself, soon enough, wallowing in mediocre football.

I’m told Tech officials had confidence in their program to believe, a decade ago, that the Red Raiders could continue to prosper without Leach. I know OSU officials believe they can thrive without Gundy.

• By far and away the best part of the Eddie documentary is the relationship between Eddie and Sean (Sutton).

(The filmmaker) was thrilled to get (Bill) Clinton and (Jerry) Jones, big Arkansas fans from Sutton’s days of coaching the Razorbacks. Hunt also collected archival footage that either hasn’t been seen in decades or never at all, including some images from Sutton’s days growing up in Bucklin, Kansas. But the movie was made by the way Sean and his wife, Trina, shared their story.

“It turned into this beautiful father/son story that I had a hunch might exist, but the way it came together, I was really blown away by it,” Hunt said. “I’m particularly proud of the way Sean kind of opened up and was so honest with me. I thought it made the movie.” [NewsOK]
