Rollover Years
It’s not in the same ballpark as a ten-year deal to an unproven (basketball) commodity, but the forever-five year contract aspect of the Gundy deal is interesting.
“It is what I wanted because I don’t want to come back and negotiate every three or four years,” Gundy said in an exclusive interview. “Every time we go through this people get frustrated. I get frustrated. I wanted a deal that we could just go on with and if they don’t want to roll it over and don’t like the direction of the program then they tell me. The next season if it is back on track then they can roll it over. For me, when a head hunter calls about a coaching job at another school I can simply tell them that I’m good at Oklahoma State.” [GoPokes – $]
It may be more common than I know, historically there have been a few (Dantonio @ Mich St, Belotti @ Oregon, Leach @ Wash St). I like it for Gundy for the reasons above and it’s a boost in recruiting right now for sure.
But in the case of Todd Graham at Arizona State, it’ll be interesting to see if recruiting tanks when it’s not renewed. Pros and cons play into the situation for sure.
Steele’s Pick
College football’s preeminent predictor Phil Steele shares what he thinks the ceiling is for this Cowboy team.
“Two of my nine sets of power ratings (not my main one) call for 11 wins. With Rudolph and Washington turning down the NFL and five Big 12 home games including Oklahoma, they are a legitimate Big 12 and National Championship contender,” wrote Steele in his analysis of the Cowboys. [GoPokes $]
He’s got the Pokes at second in the league post-Stoops but wouldn’t limit what 2017 could hold.
OSU and NCAA Notes
Football assistants next-in-line at Non-Gundy schools….Big 12 football teams as “The Office” characters….Former Cowboy DB Michael Hunter is impressing the NY Giants….Rick Pitino and Louisville are seeing their national title taken away….Vegas has the Pokes second in the league and playing in DFW for the title
Baker got slapped hard hardly slapped as expected. Best case scenario? Roadside trash pickup.
Oklahoma announces Baker Mayfield will be required to participate in alcohol education and 35 hours of community service for recent arrest.

Jawun to the Pacers would help with the inevitable-post Paul George rebuild.
