Four-Star Point Guard Ayo Dosunmu Includes OSU in Top 11 Schools
The point guard dominoes for the Class of 2018 have begun to fall, with five-star prospect Jahvon Quinerly pledging to Arizona on Tuesday. Now it seems as if one of OSU’s top targets at the position could be nearing a decision in the near future.
Four-star prospect Ayo Dosunmu announced his top 11 schools on Wednesday night which included OSU, Creighton, Illinois, Kansas, Memphis, New Mexico, UConn, USC, NC State, Wake Forest and Xavier.
Dosunmu holds just short of 30 scholarship offers so he sliced his options in half in one fell swoop.
A Chicago, Illinois native, Dosunmu has steadily climbed the national rankings this summer after a foot injury hampered him towards the end of his team’s state title run in the spring. Now he’s motivated by chasing a spot among the nation’s best and earning a bid to compete in the McDonald’s All-American game — an honor a player from Chicago hasn’t earned since 2015.
“Even though there’s no sixth star, I’m chasing for a sixth star,” Dosunmu told NBC Chicago recently, a nod to his five-star rating on Rivals.com. “I put in the work each and every day — twice a day, sometimes three times a day, because I know it’s going to pay off.”
OSU entered Dosunmu’s recruitment with a scholarship offer in late-September of 2016 during the Underwood era, but the new regime of Mike Boynton and Co. have continued to recruit him this spring and into the summer.
Although there are plenty of irons in the fire, OSU doesn’t yet have a commitment in the 2018 class. OSU is still involved in the recruitment of four-star point guard Elijah Weaver.
