Showdown in the Wild West (Virginia)
Saturday will face off a pair of gunslingers vying for superiority – and the perspectives of NFL draftniks.
He’ll share the stage with West Virginia’s Will Grier, and the Mountaineers rank 111th out of 129 FBS teams in total defense. If he can’t outshine Grier, he could find himself sliding toward the bottom of the top 10 on this list. [NFL.com]
Outside of the next Saturday’s matchup, this is probably as good as it gets for QB showdowns on OSU’s schedule.
This could be problematic though:

Focus Poke-us
Mike Boynton walked into a hailstorm of questions earlier this week at Big 12 media days but responded with a rationality and perspective admirable for anyone adjusting to a new and challenging situation.
“All I can do is wake up and try to have a good attitude, be there for my kids,” he said. “When I show up to work every day, I tell my guys I expect them to give me their best. I can’t give them my best if I’m distracted by things that don’t matter or that aren’t relevant to where we’re doing, I should say.”
Boynton knows there are dark clouds hovering over Gallagher-Iba Arena, but it would be irresponsible to let his program disappear in them. Not right now. Not as long as nobody knows the extent of the FBI probe, who else could be affected or what price OSU might ultimately pay. [TulsaWorld]
Games haven’t started but the mentality of a program leader appears to be in place – and kudos after a challenging first few months on the job.
