Post Cheez-It Bowl

• This point about OSU’s gameplan on Tuesday night was astute – that fast start was closely tied to a brilliant plan by Dunn and Co.

OSU opened the game with a pass-heavy scheme that shocked even Miami coach Manny Diaz. The Cowboys’ first 15 snaps were pass plays — this against a team that gave up 554 yards rushing in its previous game, against North Carolina. But Mike Gundy said Miami’s quickness at linebacker made OSU fear the run game would be limited. Give offensive coordinator Kasey Dunn credit — the early salvo worked.

This TulsaWorld piece linking OSU and Miami through Jimmy Johnson is terrific. Two thoughts arose from reading:

  1. The parallels between Jimmy Johnson and Les Miles teeing up Pat Jones and Mike Gundy are so similar (while obviously one run included $165m from a benefactor).
  2. The hunger and desire to hire incredible assistants with Jimmy Johnson’s staff seems start to 2020 OSU. Pat Jones is quoted saying Johnson liked to hire “aggressive” people, just bringing in top notch assistants with high ceilings.

I love what Kasey Dunn does with receivers but I think OSU could stand for hiring a future head coach at offensive coordinator.
