Mr. Intangible
There’s lots of things necessary for a winning team – a point guard who can facilitate and a plethora of shooters – but a willingness to accept a role and finding way to contribute are in the DNA of good teams. Lindy Waters embraces this notion.
“It’s easy, but it just takes — you have to have the right mindset,” Waters said. “Because I’m not the most athletic. I’m not Mohamed Bamba. I can’t block shots while standing on the floor.”
Waters’ stingy defense and willingness to sacrifice his body is exactly what Boynton is trying to instill into the Oklahoma State program. [TulsaWorld]
It feels like this team has lots of parts of a winning team – a few solid wing scorers, a hound on the boards and shot blocking potential – enough to win some games.
Poke-Suey
Tucked away in Mark Cooper’s list of replacements for Glenn Spencer is a splashy longshot name previously unheard.
Bret Bielema, former Arkansas coach
If Gundy’s looking for a splashy name … here’s a former defensive coordinator on the market. [TulsaWorld]
Bielema brings up an interesting point – the candidates that seem most logical are Gang of Five defensive coordinators or those floating around after the coaching carousel. But considering free agent head coaches with defensive backgrounds could offer some solid options if the budget offers.
