Greatness Awaits?
ESPN looked over OSU’s schedule and came out with a hot take.
This has a chance to be the best team Mike Gundy has fielded in Stillwater.
In fact, Oklahoma State could be favored in every game — except against Oklahoma. Once again, Bedlam will go a long way toward dictating whether this season is viewed as a success or failure. And that could include a rematch in the Big 12 title game. [ESPN]
“…(B)est team Mike Gundy has fielded in Stillwater.” It feels like the 2013 defense is better than this one and while not the majority’s opinion, the 2011 offense felt better. But if they can force turnovers the overall average of the team could be higher?
If they force turnovers, could the overall average of the team be higher?
System Issue
Jay Bilas is running a camp in OKC but took some time to talk about the former Cowboy head coach – last name starts with a U and rhymes with “shmunderwood”. He points at a systemic issue for his departure more than assigning blame locally.
He blames the administrators who he said have fostered an atmosphere that allows – and even encourages – that kind of movement. Bilas noted that the NBA and NFL limit coach movement by more strictly enforcing contracts.
“If (college administrators) really cared about competitive balance, they wouldn’t take other people’s coaches like that,” Bilas said. “They wouldn’t go in through the back door and ask them to break their contracts. Because that’s what they’re doing. They use these search firms. They contact people through back channels so they have plausible deniability. ‘Well, I never talked to Brad Underwood.’ You’re right. You talked to somebody who you asked to contact him. That’s who I blame. It’s not the coaches’ fault.” [NewsOK]
The system is incredibly shady. When the coach and school deny ever chatting until the day before but all of a sudden agree to all of the necessary terms. Get outta here with that.
