OSU Bullets
• What seed is OSU headed towards in the Big 12 tourney?
Meanwhile, OSU likely is headed for the eighth or ninth seed. The Cowboys are 5-11, tied with Iowa State for eighth. They trail TCU and West Virginia by two games but are three games ahead of last-place Kansas State.
For OSU to rise to seventh, the Cowboys must win out (home vs. Kansas State on Wednesday, at Texas on Saturday), while TCU loses out. Under that scenario, OSU would win the tiebreaker, unless West Virginia finishes ahead of both OU and Texas. [NewsOK $$$]
A rematch with Iowa State appears to be in the cards – less than ideal if you’ve ever seen the hordes of ISU fans in Kansas City for the tourney.
• ESPN rated the Cowboys’ quarterback situation as No. 10 in the country based on the merits of Spencer Sanders and the promise of Shane Illingworth.
The Big 12 Freshman of the Year set an Oklahoma State freshman record with 2,065 pass yards, while averaging 57.1 rushing yards per game. He’ll work with his third offensive coordinator in as many years, although Kasey Dunn has been on the staff for a decade. [ESPN+ $$$]
It’s hard to have the right perspective on Sanders – there were highs and lows last year but freshman records point to a strong potential. His capacity is the single greatest factor for the 2020 season reaching double-digits.
• Taylor Cornelius went and had himself a game on Sunday when the Tampa Bay Vipers won 25-0.
Corndog completed 24 of 31 passes for 211 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He was buoyed by a running game that produced two 100-yard rushers – Deveon Smith ran for 122 yards, Jacques Patrick for 108 yards – even though the XFL had zero 100-yard rushers in its first 15 games.
Cornelius also had a 17-yard touchdown run off a scramble. [NewsOK $$$]
• This was really cool – Vermont recruit who had a career-ending injury scores his first points on Senior Night.
Here’s the best thing you’ll see tonight.
Vermont senior Josh Speidel gets the first start of his career and the first points of his career.
Speidel was a highly touted UVM recruit before a car accident in high school left him in a coma. Incredible story in Burlington. pic.twitter.com/kWInlKqFZF
