Daily Bullets (Mar. 9): Crootin’ Talk, Top Articles this Week
I’ve been reading a book on leadership this week and liked the below quote – I want to start sharing a favorite line from what I read that week as the Saturday intro:
“There is no necessary correlation between how busy you and are how productive you are.”
– Andy Stanley, “Next Generation Leader”

• Most Viewed Article (No. 1): Brynden Walker Commits to OSU
Something that’s really surprised me is how it’s been in-state defenders (and o-linemen) going Pokes over premium offensive skill talent. Sure, Justice Hill, but over the last few years, it seems like Oklahoma guys that stuck out – defenders like Calvin Bundage, Jordan Brailford, Malcolm Rodriguez and all of Henson’s linemen outflank the Dillon Stoners and Justice Hills.
• Most Viewed Article (No. 2): OSU’s Wrestling Class for 2020 is Loaded
The lede sold me: John Smith could have his best recruiting class in nine years. As you sift through reasons to be excited about the football class, just listen to these numbers: John Smith has the Nos. 2, 10, 15, and 24 recruits committed in this class.
• Most Viewed Article (No. 3): Huge Basketball Recruiting for KU Game
This is the kind of stuff you get with Mike Boynton as your head coach – two top 100 players on campus for the biggest home game of the year even if you’re in last place. There are bluebloods who cherry-pick lineup changes of four and five-star players, schools who can keep local talent home, and then born, charismatic, winsome recruiters who are in a lot of conversations and close enough to fill a roster.
This may seem trite but Boynton is so good at making his way into these top threes for high-end talents and it’s almost logical that he could fill a class with these guys.
• Most Viewed Article (No. 4): Four-Star BBall Recruit’s Mom Geared Up
First of all – I love stories like this where families are enjoying this courtship process. It’s very unlikely something I’ll personally experience. With that being said – how I as an internet blogger feel about these “parents-gearing-up” would exclusively depend on what the parent is saying around the photos.
I love the photos of Christian Brown and his mom in the post – they’re having a great time enjoying being together and the moment. There’s something about these Florida dad pics that say he’s just taking it too seriously that feels funky to me.
• Most Viewed Article (No. 5): Justice Hill Broke Social Media with his 40-Yard-Dash
This is maybe the most OSU thing about Justice Hill – he shows up a bit undersized, muscled-up but not completely overwhelming. Then his performance is flattering and you’re surprised. It’s sort of the epitome of how Gundy shows up with a squad of three-stars and Homecoming and proclaims “Texas isn’t back.”
All things aside, that 4.40 forty was incredible.
• You can put as little or much confidence as you’d like into the predictions of recruiting experts, but one of 247’s best has a four-star forward leaning towards the Pokes.
Jerry Meyer is a hoops and recruiting expert for 247Sports who has been in the biz for years upon years. He writes about recruiting, dishes out #scoops, and from time to time, he predicts where players will land using the 247Sports crystal ball.
His forecast for four-star prospect Christian Brown is coming up orange. [PFB]
247 has Brown as the No. 61 prospect in the 2019 class and who would be OSU’s top overall commit for 2019.
• It doesn’t look great for Emmanuel Ogbah in Cleveland as the Browns went out and landed a high-dollar defensive end to play over him.
