Size Matters

This could probably be the catchphrase for a lot of the spring football position battles (tackle and quarterback included) but it will certainly come into play as the receivers fight for position.

LC Greenwood/Braydon Johnson/Patrick McKaufman: Oklahoma State returns four receivers with experience: Jalen McCleskey, Dillon Stoner, Tyron Johnson and Tylan Wallace. But there will be snaps and targets available for some of Kasey Dunn’s younger prospects. At 6-foot-3 and 6-foot-6, respectively, Greenwood and McKaufman could compete to fill the holes left by Marcell Ateman and Chris Lacy’s departures. [TulsaWorld]

Then you insert the 6’5″ CJ Moore into the discussion over the summer and you start to feel like you can somewhat adequately address the loss of NFL-bound Marcell Ateman.

We’re Not in Kentucky Anymore

Western Kentucky’s leading scorer had fine things to say about the Madison Square Garden of the Plains.

In a news conference on Saturday, as WKU prepares for the NIT semifinals, Western Kentucky senior Justin Johnson called it “the loudest place I’ve ever played a game of basketball in.”

The announced crowd for WKU’s 92-84 win over OSU was 11,308, more than 2,000 shy of a sellout. It was the third-largest crowd for an Oklahoma State home game this season (Bedlam was the only sellout).

In an interview shared by Chad Bishop of WBKO-TV, Johnson said the noise level was so high it affected Western Kentucky’s ability to communicate.

“You had to read lips and hand signals,” Johnson said. “That’s the only way. … Coach talked about communicating the play in the halfcourt, you couldn’t hear each other. It was that loud.” [TulsaWorld]

Another feather in Mike Boynton’s had to have brought the heat for a Conference USA opponent for a weeknight bout. The piece mentions the Hilltoppers have competed at Louisville, Wisconsin, Xavier and Minnesota – other teams with tradition.

OSU and NCAA Notes

National title or bust for No. 1 Cowboy Golf squad….A touching story about a terminally-ill Jayhawk fan and their tournament run….Big 12 is adding a pitch clock to speed baseball games up….This Loyola team’s Final Four run seems surreal….Are the Jayhawks good enough to be ‘Nova?

All the Cowboys.

Bill Self as a freshman!

Second best among the big dawgs (who faced real competition)

Put it on your calendars, Pokes.

An impressive climb.
