Unsolved Mysteries
Did Oklahoma State coaches hide Barry Sanders’ high school tape from other programs?
“I think when (OSU running backs coach George) Shimek and (OSU assistant George) Walstad were up at Sanders’ high school, there was a game film where they kind of featured Sanders as a wingback on a counter play and it opened your eyes a little bit,” former head coach Pat Jones said.
The only other major colleges to recruit Sanders were Tulsa and Iowa State. Sanders likely would have had additional suitors if more eyes had been exposed to his film, but YouTube did not exist in the 1980s. The only way to see Sanders’ highlights was to have a physical copy of the film. The film “disappeared” after Walstad and Shimek’s visit. The disappearance wasn’t mysterious. It was intentional.
“Shimek took the film and brought it back with him,” Jones said. “They might have told (the high school coaches) they were bringing it back to show me and then just kept it or something.” [TulsaWorld]
Case cracked: the Georges’ “disappeared” the film in a trash can at Lewis Field (probably).

Bludgeon Away
After a couple of games, it sure feels like this Cowboy Basketball team will be the SEC football team of Big 12 basketball.
“Our offense took a while to get going, but our offense played well in the second half,” Boynton said. “One thing I stressed in the locker room is if they continue to commit to the defensive end, we’ve got enough shooters; we’ve got enough offensive players. The shots will fall, so we’ll continue to emphasize that.”
The defense was there: OSU held Pepperdine to just 28.3 percent shooting and 0.67 points per possession — a mark better than any game last season. [TulsaWorld]
Having more size on the perimeter and a legit rim protector (after Christmas) will look like a lot of 60-50 games, a stark contrast from college basketball’s most efficient offense last year. But it does feel fitting for Oklahoma State.

It’d be interesting to see how that Big 12 number changes if this weekend goes (extremely) well.

Feels more apt for a Cowboy-Red Raider rivalry but still cool.

The tweet heard round Cowboy Nation – potentially injured Frogs.
Patterson calls Kenny Hill and Travis Howard questionable for Texas Tech. We may be seeing a lot of Shawn Robinson.
