Epic Comeback

The improbability of the Oklahoma State comeback that was nearly completed on Saturday night can hardly be overstated.

The largest deficit overcome to win in OSU history was 20, at Colorado in 1979. Big 12 history, 31 points, by Texas Tech against Minnesota in the 2006 Insight Bowl. Major-college history, 35, by Michigan State against Northwestern in 2006.

So this was in the wheelhouse of wild. The Cowboys trailed 42-13 with four minutes left in the third quarter and still trailed 45-20 with little more than nine minutes left in the game. [NewsOK]

Not to rub our noses in it but that fumble recovery late in the fourth quarter was the first time I felt anything at that game since I first laid eyes on the ice cream sandwiches in the cooler.

On Your Marks, Get Set…

To complete the all-downer edition of the Bullets, worth highlighting is the unusually slow starts to all the home losses (barring the 11-point spot from the zebras in Bedlam).

…(T)he Cowboys trailed early and eventually by double digits, just like they did against the Horned Frogs and Sooners.

“We’ve got to show up and start faster,” said OSU offensive tackle Zach Crabtree. “You can’t start slow at this level. It doesn’t matter who you play, because everybody is good enough to beat you.

“We started slow and didn’t get all the way after it tonight.” [NewsOK]

Considering the stakes, it’s really unusual to not get fired up for your crowd. When you’ve got an all-time offense (allegedly), I’d be all for taking the ball to start.

OSU and NCAA Notes

Is the Playoff ruining college football?….Conference championship games cleared up over the weekend….ESPN projects the Pokes vs. Wolfpack in Orlando and a more appetizing pairing in San Antonio….These Notre Dame throwbacks for Knute Rockne era are superb….Pokes are rightfully registering on USA Today’s Misery Index

Your final Big 12 scores from the weekend:

Mercy. This Jake Browning flip from Pac12 After Dark makes the Bradford flip look like a kiddie coaster. And he still led his team to a win!

A convoluted layout of the new Big 12 conference championship game, and in longer form here.

Should this count as a pre-draft workout for Carroll? Can’t wait to see that guy on the floor tonight.

Congrats to the Cowgirl Equestrian team on taking down No. 2.
