Greener Pastures?
Is Oklahoma State a better football job than Tennessee, Florida, and Arkansas?
You can even make a case Gundy has a better job than the ones he dabbled with five years ago, from an on-field standpoint. Tennessee and Arkansas have zero 10-win seasons since Gundy tempted them. Florida, for that matter, has one.
“Oh, I don’t know… It would be unfair for me to say that,” Gundy said in response to the notion of OSU-as-superior job. “There’s a lot of ways to look at it. This is a $76 million budget. I don’t know what Florida’s budget is, Tennessee’s budget, Arkansas’ budget.”
Florida’s is a reported $128 million, Tennessee’s a reported $134 million, while Arkansas’ surpassed $100 million for the first time in 2016. [TulsaWorld]
“Better” is such a subjective word dependent on the speaker’s perspective. Do you like winning? Living in a coastal state, the Ozarks or with a mostly reasonable fan base?
It’s objectively more fun to have a coach that wins ten games a year than rolling the dice trying to find one every couple of years and if you’re not sure, ask your friend who’s a Tennessee, Arkansas or Florida fan.
A Set Path
Where the Pokes land for bowl season depends largely on the fate of the Sooners and Frogs.
If Oklahoma and TCU both get assignments to the CFP and New Year’s six or both in the New Year’s six then Oklahoma State would go to San Antonio to the Alamo Bowl. If TCU is left out then they would go to the Alamo Bowl and it is almost assured that Oklahoma State would be in Orlando, Fla. in the Camping World Bowl vs. an ACC opponent and somewhat close to home for senior quarterback Mason Rudolph.
It seems highly unlikely that Oklahoma State would slip below those two to a date in Houston at the Texas Bowl. [GoPokes.com]
It’s seriously doubtful that we’ll see another 2012 level fall to the Heart of Dallas but destinations change if the Sooners don’t make the Playoff (#GoFrogs) or the Frogs don’t make a New Year’s Six game.
It appears the Alamo doesn’t hate the idea of seeing the Pokes again.

Love that Malzahn has Waffle House after wins. Could you imagine Gundy at Shortcakes after a win?
AM RT: Apple’s Tim Cook's pregame speech: “It’s our time!”
After Auburn’s 26-14 win over Alabama, it was Gus and Kristi Malzahn’s time … for Waffle House.
