Momentum Changers

There’s not a lot of use in crying over spilled milk but one particular play yesterday felt to dramatically shape the rest that would follow: the early Justice Hill fumble.

The play was reviewed, as (Justice) Hill was close to being down, but the call was confirmed. “I’ve got to hang onto the ball,” Hill said. Momentum, and the game, changed in that instant. Fifty seconds later, Texas tied the score and the rest of the afternoon was a grinding nail-biter. For Hill, it was his first lost fumble since his first start at Baylor 15 games ago. [NewsOK]

I was just explaining to my infant son how this felt just like last week when the Pokes went on six-straight scoring drives and figured out the defense – then posited this hopefully doesn’t turn out like that Baylor fumble last year.

Truthfully, it shouldn’t have been called a fumble anyway.

Explain Yourself

This may have been intuitive to most but Sam Ehlinger noted post-game why he started a game of catch with Ramon Richards in OT.

“I thought Jerrod (Heard) was going to circle back up to the back of the end zone for a jump ball,” Ehlinger said. “That’s why I put it up there for him for a chance to win. I just made a mistake.” [AP]

Work in Boston

While it was incredibly disheartening to see NBA star Gordon Hayward get hurt this week, it opened up some key rotation time (and a starting spot) for former OSU star Marcus Smart.

Up and down the roster, more minutes (and shots) will be available. Rookie forward Semi Ojeleye got some run on Tuesday. Jumbo guard Marcus Smart will likely get more offensive touches, and an opportunity to audition for the league for his free agency at the end of the season. [The Ringer]

Scoring 12 points per game and filling up the stat lines, loads of offensive opportunity should bode well for the free agent to be.

Let him hear about it, Rickie.

I’ll be straight – this felt like a mid tier-Big Ten team highlight reel.

KP was everyone’s spirit animal in this moment.

I’ll believe the U’s back when stuff like this doesn’t happen – Ray Lewis, Vince Wilfork and Warren Sapp wouldn’t have this.
