Four-star Class of 2020 Guard Rondel Walker Commits to Oklahoma State
Walker is commitment No. 1 for OSU in 2020.
Rondel Walker’s meteoric recruiting rise culminated on Thursday as the four-star guard from Putnam City West made his long-anticipated college commitment, choosing the Cowboys over Kansas State, Texas, Virginia Tech and Arkansas.
The 6-foot-2 Walker made his commitment in the auditorium of his high school. With the de-commitment of four-star guard Davonte Davis on the first day of October, Walker ends the month as OSU’s lone commitment in the 2020 recruiting class.

Walker was offered by OSU more than two years ago, but his recruitment has been a rollercoaster. He went nearly a full year without other programs kicking the tires before finally offers from Texas A&M, SMU, Kansas State and Virginia Tech, among others, began rolling in. A strong summer on the AAU circuit playing for the Texas Titans helped in that regard and also led to a rekindled effort from OSU’s coaching staff to get him to commit.
And about that Texas Titans connections: that’s an important one. Walker was a co-star for the team playing alongside five-star recruit Cade Cunningham, OSU’s biggest target in the 2020 class. The two fit well together. That should give OSU more ammo to push even harder for Cunningham, who currently ranks as the No. 2 prospect in the 2020 class.
As for what Walker brings to the table, it’s a mix of a lot of things. He’s a combo guard with a good physical profile and a smooth stroke. Here’s what 247Sports’ Jerry Meyer said of Walker when scouting him last fall:
Has a slender build but expected to put on weight. A smooth athlete who has some explosiveness. Shoots the ball at a high clip from three. Has point guard skills as a shooting guard. Has a quality assist/turnover ratio. Can attack and make plays with either hand. Rebounds at a high clip for a guard. Versatile defender who racks up steals. [247Sports]
With Walker in the fold, OSU now will look to pair him with a super-recruit in the backcourt. Cunningham is the obvious next man on the board (and unquestionably the top priority), but so, too, is five-star Tulsa product Bryce Thompson. It’s unclear when they will make their decisions, but signing in the early period (which runs Nov. 13-Nov. 20) hasn’t been ruled out.
On the Nike EYBL circuit this past summer, Walker averaged 10.3 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game while shooting 38 percent from 3.
