Hit Play: Senior Day Edition

Published

on

The Cowboys easily dispatched the Jayhawks on Saturday with several all-timers at OSU taking a victory lap. So, for this edition of Hit Play, we’ll pick from four of the more reel-worthy plays made by a senior.

Again, the top play each week — as decided by you — will make it to a pre-bowl playoff where you will then be able to decide the best play of the year.

DQ’s Final Stillwater Shake

The unheralded senior will probably be missed more than most realize. He might be the best of OSU’s deep and talented front seven this season, and he’s the team’s sack leader.

Here, DQ shows off his agility by shedding KU’s center and Peyton Bender had nowhere to run.

You just got Marce-ed

Marcell Ateman topped 1,000 yards on Senior Day, making some history and giving us several big time plays to remember him by. But this catch is the perfect Moss-ell grab. Throwing to Marcell in double coverage is like throwing to a normal receiver in man coverage. His catch radius and hands are elite-level, and his toughness is underrated. He showed all three here.

Chad Whitener’s Curtain Call Interception

Whitener has a total of four interceptions as a Cowboy, but most have been pretty timely and memorable. There were the two picks of Trevone Boykin in the 2015 TCU game. Then there was the Baker INT that set up a would-be, could-be Bedlam-winning drive.

This one doesn’t quite the significance alone but it was his last inside BPS. And it led directly to another last…

One Last Rudolph-to-Washington TD at home

There have been so many Rudolph-to-Washington TDs over the years that I think we’ve probably taken them for granted.

We can criticize players, wring our hands at outcomes and appreciate each other’s disappointment in a season that came up short. But saying goodbye to this long-distance connection between OSU’s all-time leading passer and its (probably) soon-to-be all-time leading receiver is not going to be easy.
